Every time I start up XP SP2 on my e1405, I get the add new hardware wizard for the Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus. Since my sound card is working fine, I don't want to install this driver, Is there any way to disable it (perhaps in regedit)?

Have you tried disabling it in Device Manager?

Just install the Conexant modem driver to get rid of that error. Installing it will not affect your sound card or any other device.
