    Hello everyone,

A friend of mine bought a Vostro 1500 and plans to replace Windows with something else as soon as he gets it.

Since he's not a big fan of Windows he wants to remove the Windows sticker, but he's worried that it might be hard to do without leaving a print on the laptop.

Has anyone tried this yet? How did it go?

I took the Windows and Intel stickers off my Vostro. The stickers peel off fairly easily if you use a knife, but it leaves a sticky residue that you can't really scrape off. You need some kind of solvent to remove it. I use a product called 'goo gone'

    http://www.magicamerican.com/products_gg.aspx

Took me about a minute or two of rubbing to clean off the residue entirely.

Mine were loosely placed on my laptop. I didn't like them so I removed them and they left no residue. Didn't tear, rip, or anything...guess I was lucky

Use a hair dryer if you want to use the sticker somewhere else. If not, just peel it off and use an eraser to clean up the residue

In general, WD40 is good for removing sticker goo.

Just do it before you too long or the surface underneath wont wear evenly with the rest of the laptop. I found that the hard way with a crappy acer. now i have 'ghost' patches of where the stickers use to be.

    This thread reminds me...

After I already used my original laptop, they told me I could swap the HDD into the replacement one, but I forgot to switch the Windows sticker too, and I already sent it back.

    What should I do now?

I just pulled them off and used a t-shirt dampened with my saliva to remove it.

    Yeah, gross.

I just peeled off the windows sticker and rubbed residue into a little ball with my finger. Now it looks like a boogar sitting there.
