I had some problems with my M1330 so it's going back to Dell. I'm planning on reordering my system and would appreciate some input regarding specs to prolong the battery life of a 6 cell to a little over 4 hours.
Planning to get:
LED LCD
GMA 3100
T7250 or T7500 (Will there be a big difference between the power usage?)
2GB or 2.5/3 GB (Will extra ram affect battery life?)
120 GB 5400 RPM or 200 GB 7200 RPM (I've heard the newer 7200 RPM drives use about the same as the old 5400 RPM. If I go for the 120 GB drive I will problable upgrade to a SSD once they become more affordable (1-2 years?))
Bluetooth
Dell 1490 wireless
Fingerprint reader

Where have you heard that the new 72's are as power efficient as the old 54's?
I would be interested to read more on this.
Regardless of spec. the current thinking around these boards would appear to be that prolonging battery life whilst maintaining integral system stability is best achieved through the flashing of the M1330's BIOS chip to revision A05. (A06 is the latest.)
Member 'RachUK' has done some extensive testing of various BIOS revisions for her M1330 and has demonstrated the battery advantages of the former edition. -
I was only speculating that a chip running at 2.2Ghz would suck more power than one at 2.0Ghz.
Do you figure with the LED screen, x3100 and A05 bios, I'd be able to get 4.5 hrs? I will likely have aero disabled when I'm running off battery power. -
the 2.2 Ghz has more cache, it helps to reduce access to memory, and both cpus reduce their clock, so if it's working on the max clock, the 2.2 ghz will do more things even if the battery life is reduced.
with extra ram the computer use less the hard disk and this will be good to battery life
