I have an e1405 with the 100GB HD option and will be reformatting and reinstalling Win MCE to get rid of all the Dell "bloatware." I want to install just a "base" configuration then "ghost" the image.

My question: Is it possible to replace the Dell factory ghost image with one that I've created? Has anyone done this? BTW, I still want to keep the Media Direct and Diagnostic partitions when doing this. Thanks.

Normally, users just reformat, and then ghost the image to a DVD. You shouldn't have any problems with media direct and the diagnostics partition. If you haven't already, please check the reformat sticky to get tidbits for before and after installing XP.

Yes, that's how I would normally do it too. I've read the sticky, but I thought it would be nice to be able to "revert" to my own custom partition that is stored on the HD. I was just trying to get around having to make and keep another DVD, though it would certainly be easier that way. Thanks.
