My dell hard drive crashed and the costumer service totally sucks.. I have a HP computer and I was wondering if it is possible to replace the Dell hard drive with the HP and save myself some money?
Also, if a hard drive crashes, can I just do system restore or system recovery or something and clean it out, start over? thanks.

What Dell model and what HP model?
If the Dell and the HP both use the same kind of hard drive (IDE or SATA) then yes. -
You just need to make sure the HDD you replace it with is SATA and the drive is a 9.5mm drive so that it physically fits into the machine.
I'd try Dell tech support again if I were you though, sometimes you get a muppet and sometimes you don't. Rare that you get what you want on your first call - though it does happen.
You should have had the OS disk with the Inspiron, so you can clean re-install; or when booting press F12 and eventually one of the options is to restore from the recovery partition - unless you wiped it out with a previous clean install.
