My trusty old Inspiron 9400 has graphics issues - quite sure the nvidia 7900gs is dead.

Is it possible to get a new gpu for this? I know some laptops can swap gpus, others have them soldered in. I've had the gpu replaced once already, and i dontt think they did a motherboard replacement, so i'm pretty sure i can swap.

Assuming i can get a new gpu, where would i get one? Would anything that fits the socket work, or only what Dell offered on this model? I think the other offering was an ATI X1400.

Oh, if it helps (or hinders) I'm in Australia.

You can get a new GPU. You must get one that was made for the 9400/E1705, and they're awfully expensive. X1400 is indeed an option, but the cheapest one of those I can find is already $180... and that's in the US.

Finally got a quote today. $563.23. As far as I can tell, that's just for the part, not to install it.
    eBay here I come ...
