A while ago I stupidly spilled water on my Dell Inspiron 1420..The laptop still runs but the keyboard is suffering from broken keys. I know the problem is hardware and not faulty drivers and my warranty is long over. So I was wondering if their was way I could replace the keyboard on it..

Easy, grab a keyboard off eBay or something and all you need to do is pry off the panel above the keyboard (I used a rubber spatula) and there are 2 screws holding the keyboard on.
If you do a quick google search you can get the Dell instructions. I'd link, but I'm on my iPod touch.

) The replacement keyboard can be found on eBay for around 20 bucks or at Dell.com for about 50 bucks.
As far as replacement goes, it's pretty simple and the Dell service manual walks you through it pretty thoroughly.
You can take a look for yourself here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1420/en/SM/keyboard.htm#wp1106362
Hope this helps out,

Replacing the keyboard is very easy. I did it on my _M1330 last week. _M1330 and inspiron _1420 use the same keyboard model, steps involved in replacing is also identical. Bought it from eBay for $16 with free shipping.
First you have to remove the hinge cover, then the keyboard. Here are the service manual instructions with photos : Dell_Inspiron_1420/Dell_Vostro_1400 Service Manual (Keyboard)
EDIT : booboo12 beat me to the service manual -
Thanks for help guys
