Okay so I received my Vostro 1400 with a AUO screen and it was absolutely terrible... vertical and horizontal viewing angles, dim brightness even at max, graininess, significant amount of backlight leakage...
Anyways I sent it back to Dell and they replaced it with a SEC4457. Although it is an improvement, I'm not liking the small vertical viewing angle.
There's a 30 day satisfaction warranty and I think I'm around the 15 day mark.
So should I call for another replacement and send it back to Dell to gamble for a better screen or should I just return the unit?
thanks

Ask specifically for the LG screen. I've had both AUO and SEC screens and they don't even compare. The LG is FLAWLESS.

The CSR told me he couldn't garentee me anything like that. It's luck of the draw.

with dell imo i w3ould never let it get past 30days. if you get another one and you are coming close to your times to get a refund DO IT... then if you want to still go with dell call and re-order a whole new system. this extends your return time by another 21 / 30 days. and there are killer coupons right now you can use. they can not NO MATTER what they tell you gaurantee you a ceratin screen its simply which ever gets pulled for your system they will not send you a lg just because you asked for it.
but overall doing this allows you to continue getting BRAND NEW replacements if needed. generally after 30 days dell has the right to send you a refurbished system according to their policies.. -
I've seen 4 Vostro 1400s with WXGA+ displays. Two had SEC screens, and two had screens from AUO. I'm not sure a 14.1" WXGA+ screen from LG even exists. I know people have reported getting 15.4" WXGA+ LG screens, but has anyone actually gotten one in the 14.1" size?
Anyway, they all have terrible vertical viewing angles. The Latitudes and Lenovo's Thinkpads have less-than-stellar vertical viewing angles as well. Most (if not all) of the laptops I've played with at the local stores have poor vertical viewing angles.
Poor vertical viewing angles is my primary complaint with notebook displays - "graininess" and light leakage are usually more manageable. Save for the T60 Thinkpads that were available with IPS panels, pretty much every notebook display out there is going to pale in comparison to a good quality desktop LCD in terms of color reproduction, viewing angles, and brightness. -
Ya I guess this will be a keeper then.. I mean it's not that horrible and it's still usable.
Thanks for your suggestions!
