So my original 1520 has a T7300 processor and I'm replacing this original because of the AUO screen, high pitch humming from the motherboard and CPU and the garbled computer sounds when I use my headphones. The replacement is coming with a T7250. I know the only difference is 2MB in the L2 cache but I can't help thinking it's going to be slightly slower. The first time Dell tried to cheat me on this was with a very sneaky slight overall price increase with what I owed them but I caught that and got it adjusted to the original cost. Now they are giving me a lower end processor plus even more bull**** delay for the shipment of the system. Sigh... WTF... What to do...?
-
I wouldn't accept anything below a T7300... I paid more for the T7300 is the major reason and then, for me, the T7250 with less cache would be a BAD idea... I do a LOT of Virtual Machine stuff with 3 or 4 VMs going usually...
-
lol wtf dude, theres no T7250, both the T7300 and the T7200 are the same thing except the T7300 is build using the 65nm process which means that the processor will be more energy efficient and get less hot. As for any high pitch noise, thats natural if the CPU isnt working, I used to get that on my old acer
-
-
i would just ask for a refund, if they don't let you get what you ordered or something better at no extra cost they are cheating you.
-
that sucks. they are giving you the shaft. my advice is to get another replacement, send it right back. which should probably be easy because i'll bet the T7250 they sent you has a lousy sceen too.
DAMN YOU DELLLLL!!!
hehe... -
Call Dell and insist on replacement with an equal or better processor. If you are persistent and polite they will honor the request since you are in the right here.
-
imo what a bunch of crap for all of us who are trying to get a different screen they always say we only do like to like replacements... this is always their first response.. and then they pull this.. man i would not accept the t7250 in place of the 7300 now i would def take a 7500 instead but with the 7250 you are loosing 2mb of cache which imo is a large difference and one of the main reasons even still i would pick the t7500 or t7700 over anything else they have even though it costs more. i would call and tell them you will be speaking with the bbb and be placing this all over the internet if they are not willing to rectify the situation
-
On your order status, does it state the different CPU or is this by a Dell rep???
My replacement 1520 is arriving soon, order status is shipped and T7300 CPU, same as original.
Let me know and Good Luck. -
haha. yeah, zfactor is right. if you call and ask for something other than, say, a grainy samsung screen they will go on and on about how they replace like for like. what a crock.
-
Yeah the T7250 should not be an option at all here since you paid for something more and you should not get something less valuable.... If it is a T7500 or T7700 it is ok IMO...

So I talked with several Dell reps today and finally derived to a solution with me taking the replacement notebook with a $125 compensation. I wonder if I made a good choice or not. Whatever the case, I'm probably never gonna deal with Dell again. I've been hung up on three times trying to reach an escalations manager and wasted nearly 100 minutes on the phone trying to find out the problem, constantly being thrown from the Customer and "the place where they manufacture the notebooks" departments. Poor customer service is all I have to say about them.
-
Didn't these processors go down in price? Doesn't the T7500 now cost what the T7300 used to?
-
write the executive offices a letter thats what i did and i got a call from someone back who put me on the phone directly with escalations..
-
-
the 2MB cache difference between the T7250 and T7300 is a big deal... you'll notice this especially when multitasking using VISTA. DON'T take the lower end processor.
-
I received my replacement 1520 today, latch is extremely loose - lid has huge gap, chassis does not sit flat on the table - wobble, well I'm keeping my original 1520 and the light bleed off is actually better on the original.
I'll submit a screen replacement in 6 month's when they hash out these problems.
So don't assume that replacements will be better, no more replacements for me period. -
yeah same boat here no more replacements but ill just cancel this time.. no more after this
-
BBB over a replacement within 14 days? i think thats skipping a few key steps there bud.
tell them to replace your 7300 with a 7300 or to replace the money in your bank account, period. -
t7250 == t7300 in everything but the 2mb vs 4mb cache, which, honestly makes up only ~3% performance difference.
Anyways, I wouldn't be too worried about having a slower processor.
Congrats on the $125. -
^^ not the point.. if you were in his place and bought something lets say a lcd tv. you buy this model due to it having a hdmi port (i know they almost all due but this is hypothetical). you get it home and find there is no hdmi port you go to return it and they say oh we forgot to tell you we removed that from that one.. what would you do since that was one of the features you bought it for.. i know its not a great example but its kinda what im trying to say..
-
That's nothing like this, that is immediately noticeable and disables a functionality that was supposed to exist.
In this case for 9/10 times there won't be a difference between the chips, and the other time the difference won't even be noticeable. -
imo i think differently i guess... well long story short i guess it will be up to the poster if they want the offered discount or the better chip.. imo 2mb vs 4mb WILL make a difference ...tough choice...after searching around and seeing as most only have a 10$ - 50$ markup for the t7250 from the t7300 id prob take the 125 myself..call them back and tell them you'll take it for 150 i bet they will go for it..
-
wow owned! nice char texintxux -
Yeah ask them for a higher compensation than $125... They would probably agree.... Tell them you placed this order especially for the 4 MB cache processor and would need a better compensation....
-
heck if you push enough you could get even more than 150... be nice but make sure they def know you WANTED THE 7300....
-
I don't know if I could call them back and ask for more since I already settled for $125 compensation. I'll just hope for the best. If it doesn't turn out the way I expected it to be then I guess I could return it.
-
When I bought my order the upgrade to the T7300 from the next step down was a $200 difference, I would work with that even though the next step down was the T5450. 2Mb I wouldn't budge, I need $200 or a better cpu cause anywhere else you decide to buy your laptop you would get it sooner and probably the CPU you ordered.
-
Saying "oh we forgot to tell you there's no HDMI" on a laptop that is advertised as having HDMI included is totally different.
i do get what your saying zfactor, but your analogy is a bit off.
point... dont settle for the 7250, UNLESS YOURE OK WITH IT. in all honesty the 2mb cache wont break the deal for me. CPUs are all PLENTY CAPABLE these days.
I highly doubt one day the OPer will be playing half-life or whatever the latest and greatest is and say, "if only i had that extra 2mb of cache!"...i think itll be more like if only i had a better video card! -
125$ is a decent compensation for their lack of stock. take the money, and the 7250, dont worry, and be happy. -
-
I got my 1420 replacement today... long story short, Dell sent me T7500 instead of T7100 that I originally ordered. I am happy Dell upgraded that for me. However, Dell put in 5400 rpm drive instead of 7200 rpm drive!!!
My question is: will 5400 rpm drive significantly slower than 7200 rpm drive? With upgraded T7500 from T7100, will it compensate the difference??? Thanks for help. -
-
did u ship the old system back already? switch the drives after a confirmation call to dell. theyll let you no prob
-
How did you manage a fre upgrade from the T7100 to the T7500?
-
I have no idea why they upgraded my CPU, maybe because they don't have 7200 rpm HD in stock? Or maybe they just make mistake? I really have no idea. I would like to switch the HD, but 5400 drive seems much quieter than 7200 drive. I also don't notice much difference in performance. I think I would just call to ask for $$ difference and keep the 5400 drive for now. What do you think?
-
Well I recieved my replacement notebook a lot earlier than expected. It came today and I ran a couple of tests. There is no static sounds when I insert my headphones into the headphone/audio jack, I received an LG screen (yay! much brighter than AUO), the CPU high pitch humming sound still exists (but I guess that's common and I just have to get used to it), battery is a bit looser than my original, and the T7250 is something I'll have to experience later in the future. I froogled the price difference between the T7250 and T7300 which turned out to be approximately $50.00. I guess this works out as long as I don't see any significant effects in performance in the future. I also noticed Dell Media 3.3 wasn't installed which could explain the better index score I recieved.
-
wow congrads man i better get a lg after i keep seeing all these people getting them in their replacements...
-
Hey weeeee,
How did you find the specs of the replacement you were getting? I ordered a replacement rather than deal with tech support for the headphone jack issue. They gave me a replacement number but not a place to look it up. -
If you have a dell account log into it and click on Order Status under My Orders and click on the order number that corresponds to the replacement notebook you're waiting for. You might not be able to check the specs until your order has been processed.
-
the order has to be actually invoiced before you can check it
