Where can I find a cheap 9 cell battery for my Inspiron 6400? The one that came with it lasts maybe under an hour on power saver in vista. It lasted as long as 6-7 hours...about a year and a half ago.

Has anyone had any experience with the batteries sold on ebay (search inspiron 6400 battery, goes for around 60 bucks)?

    How reliable are those batteries?

I have an Inspiron 1505 (I believe it's like a twin to 6400) and got a 9 cell from a random website about 6 months ago. Cost me around $70 compared to 200 or so from Dell. It is working fine, giving me about 3 hours or so. When my original one died (year and a half old), it was giving me about 10 minutes.

I figure even if it's garbage, I could buy three of these over a given time period to equal the one Dell. And since my Dell barely lasted 18 months, I figured it was worth the chance.

There are some other older posts throughout the board that may give you more opinions.

As to where to get them, I just Googled it.

    Good luck

Try to find a reputable seller on eBay. You don't want a crappy battery that might explode.

3rd party batteries are a crap shoot to say the least.

I bought a 9 cell generic for my thinkpad when I had that. It lasted around 1.5 hours on a full charge. Much less than the original 6 cell when it was new.

Problem is, laptop batteries are so darned expensive that sometimes going generic is the only alternative.

When my 6 cell battery died, I searched up eBay and purchased a genuine 9 cell. But of course, that was about more than half a year ago. I did the same search recently for a relative and it seems there aren't much genuines left. And those who claim it to be genuine is really a phony. So eBay isn't much of a solution anymore.

You can hit up ebay, or just buy one from Dell (albeit for an arm and a leg).
