Hi. The UXGA LCD failed on my Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop. I've got my hands on what should be a compatible replacement but can't get it to work properly.

    Chipset: nVidia GeForce2Go, 32MB, BIOS 3.11.01.38.F1.
    OS: XP SP2.
    Original: Sharp 14.1" UXGA LQ141U1LH02 (1600 x 1200)
    Replacement: Hitachi 14.1" UXGA TX36D58VC1CAA (1600 x 1200)
Mechanically the same with same connectors and locations, etc. The display lights up.

    The problem:
XP is only listing up to 1024x768 display resolutions. When I select that I'm getting a washed-out version of it stretched across the top 2/3 of the display. i.e. The display is stretched horizontally to 2048 (I can only see 1600 wide) and every second vertical line is white.

    Any ideas?

Question which may help my understanding: Does the LCD report the max resolution back to the video chipset or where does XP get the list of supported resolutions?

    Many thanks.
