Some of you may remember that I was having some issues with the first Vostro 1400 that I received. In fact I believe I was one of the first to receive one in the US. You can see my mini-review write up here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=147970&page=3&highlight=vostro+1400+mini-review

So this new Vostro 1400 is a totally different machine then my last one. When I was on the phone I threw a sh1t fit about having to send back a new machine because the battery wobbled and the number 2 key did not work and also the CD drive just started making so much noise everytime I loaded something in it.

The machine I just received has a screen by LG rather than AUO. CD drive s whisper quiet. There are absolutely no build issues with this one. AND there is NO BATTERY WOBBLE with either the 6 cell or 9 cell. In fact the battery is in there so tight that its difficult to remove it. The only that I liked on my old Vostro was the keyboard. The keyboard I'm typing on right now just doesn't feel as good as the other one. But no big deal since everything else is working and looking perfect.

Now the only issue I'm having is getting XP to work correctly. Everytime I come out of sleep mode or hibernation, the screen does not come back on but the rest of the computer does. Any suggestions?

We *all* have wobbly batteries and noisy cd drives

How much credit did you get for the "inconvenience" this whole thing caused you?

How long did it take to receive your replacement machine? and did Dell keep you up to date on the replacement's status at all? I was promised a replacement machine but I haven't heard from Dell since I made the service call - I just want to make sure.
Thanks! I'm glad it looks like the later batch of systems are problem free. Gets my hopes up about my replacement.

It took about 10 days to receive and no Dell did not keep me up to date. I had to call them about the status of it from time to time. I received a $50 credit for the inconvenience.

Last I checked Hondas have good build quality, great reliability, and are highly rated.

It's brand new and no the lid has absolutely no play to it. Overall this new notebook just feels so much better built.

Just take out the keyboard (you know when you change memory under the keyboard) and on the back of the keyboard it has its brand name.

    here you go!
You are right, there is back light leaking, but it is not that big a problem compared to graininess problem on the wxga+ screen. On the light leaking test, wxga+ wins. I have a replacement coming in soon, if the screen is different I will post pics here.
