Hi there , i have been having alot of problems with my m1730 and i have been chasing a refund from the UK team.

They have currently offered to give me a replacement system, does anyone know if this would reset the warranty timer ? Just then i could return the machine within the 14 day cooldown bracket.

    thanks in advance

Why would you want to return it if it works fine?

No it wont. The replacemeant is part of your current warranty. How long have you had the laptop and does it have a genuine fault that can be proven. If you've had it for less than say 28 days then you should be entitled to a full refund under the terms Sale of Goods Act here in the UK.

thanks for the replies so far,

I want to return it because i have been so let down by dell over the pat 18months , last machine was a m1710 which had 2 new gphx cards , 1 motherboard , hard-drive.

I have had the m1730 since november 07 so im well out of the 28 day cover unfortunately , the fact they are offering to give me a replacement hould mean if i kick up enough i will get a refund hopefully.

You can accept the replacement and sell it as new. They might upgrade your components due to your issues. Did you buy that m1730 or it was a replacement for your m1710?

Jus to let u all guys know, I had a DELL vostro 1400 fully loaded laptop bought in oct 1st and i never made any calls to DELL.
In january I called a dell technician to my home for a minor(loose flap) issue, and randomly I asked him my screen was developing a darker curve on the right side of the screen, was it normal. He said it was a vista feature.... yea rt. So I showed him a complete white image in full screen view and it was clear the screen was dying.
I called dell and asked them I want to downgrade to normal LCD and dont want the truelife replacement screen. They boldy said It cant be done!
Well I retorted back- then no need of replacing the screen, I made a mistake buying DELL business laptop which completely defies the purpose it was built for and I hanged up on them...... I was really pissed off though I was courteus.
They called back and offered a full refund! Its all done.

Primeh - I only have experience with this issue with HP but wanted to tell you that I had issues a few years ago. They sent me a replacement and I specifically asked the Quality Control Manager if I would get an additional warranty or if this would be built into the 6 months I had already dealt with the repair center on the old one.

He told me it would be like I had just bought it so it was a year warranty from the date I received the replacement. It's definitely worth asking about because even if you sell it, the new owner is going to want to know the status of the warranty.

    Good luck!

thanks again for the replies appreciate the help chaps.

What happened was the m1710 broke and they offered me a replacement but there was an 8 week wait because of the supply of the LCD screens, so they offered me a refund or a long wait, i took the refund and then bought a m1730.

Had a few problems, a few became a few more then enough was enough so I said that i wanted a refund or my extensive list of problems fixed and a few parts upgraded for the inconvienance , they told me they couldnt do either . I kicked up a fuss again they have now come back with an offer of a total replacement system, i just emailed them back and told them no thanks , i want a refund .
