So I received the 'new' 1530 that was suppose to be a replacement for the one I received that had a grainy screen. The new screen must be an LG and its beautiful- what a contrast- problem is, the one they sent me is a refurb so I am pissed- I didn't pay full price so I could wind up with a refurbished model and the support told me they would be sending me a new one. I am going to have to call and complain- I want a new one sent out with that type screen. Another option I guess is having a tech guy come in a swap the two- but even then I don't feel comfortable with that. Would like some opinions on what others think the best way to go about this is.... Thanks.

    Kent,

I would recommend posting your grainy screen issues in the M1530 grainy screen thread so we don`t have multiple threads to follow...

People have trouble getting them so your best bet is to get a tech to swap the LG from the refurb to your original machine.

If he does a poor job return both a re-order a new one.

Read dells terms of service that you must agree to before you purchase the machine. This is not against policy and you agreed it would be ok a the time of purchase.

If you are happy with the screen, quit complaining.

Can you go into Device Manager, then select Monitors, then Details tab and look at the Hardware IDs and let us know what it says?

Complaining??? I am sorry I paid full price for a new laptop, I should have to settle for a refurb when I could have gone to the outlet and received it for a much lesser price. Regarding Se92692- I went into the original laptops device manager and it said Samsumg and the item #, in the refurbed it just said '(standard monitor type)". But I just spoke with Dell and he confirmed this was an LG- they sent me a refurb because i had said I would prefer and LG (but he didn't listen when I said I wanted a new replacement not a refurb). Anyway, the help person said he could not guarantee it would be LG and said it likely would not be because theyre extremely backorderd due to the LG fire. But he did say he could guarantee this new placement would not be defective (I'll believe it when I see it). So I should receive it in 7 business days and I will go from there...

As per the agreement you legally agreed to, you said that it was ok that replacement parts may be of refurbished nature. ALL replacement screens are refirbs. Get over it. Go read what you legally signed again before complaining else return the laptop.

Can i ask a quick question? I am a bit confused does this mean any replacement computer they send you can be a referbished computer? Even if you are within your 30 day satisfaction period?

Also how do you tell if the computer is a refurbished one and not a new one?

    Thanks

There is a giant sticker on the bottom that says so.

Ia m sorry- when did I ask for a replacement part? I asked for a new model to be sent to me because the original was defective. If a new replacement means they can give me something with refurbished parts then I am wrong, and I didn't read the fine print like most people. But when the tech person said a brand new replacement would be sent out, I would take that as not refurbished.

Doesn't whether you get a refurb or not depend on whether you're within your 21 days or not?

    Kent,

Where are you located? If you are in North America, you generally have 21 days from invoice date during which time Dell will send you new parts and a new replacement system if you so desire. In the UK, I believe it is 7 days from invoice date. Consequently, if you were outside the initial grace period, Dell would have sent you a refurbished system. So chelet is right.

Secondly, if you are satisfied with the screen and the quality of the system they sent you, then why are you requesting another replacement. Yeah sure, you ordered a new system, and they initially sent you one but you were not satisfied with the screen. They offered to replace the screen (I am assuming...) but you wanted a replacement. They sent you a replacement, but it was refurbished. What does it matter if its refurbished or not, if it meets your criteria. I mean honestly, if it didn't have the refurbished sticker on the bottom, would you even know if it was refurbished? The human mind seriously plays psychological tricks on all of us...

Well I recieved my replacement and it surprisingly has an LG, so I am satisfied. Looks like they do have some LGs even though they say they don't. Regarding the refurb- I feel like since I paid a price for a new system it should not be a refurb, regardless if the screen is good or not. I should have new system with a new screen. It would be like buying a new car and they gave you a used one with 10k miles. Yea, not that much mileage in the life of a car, but you wouldnt be happy paying a new car price and having a used one. It may just be psychological, but I can't view it any other way. Also, later on I find the refurb was not even configured to what I ordered. Someoe was actually upgrades, a little faster processer and a higher version of vista, but then I couldnt seem to get the cam to work and there was no fingerprint software as well as a few other things. They said they just sent me this since I had preferred an LG and this was all they could do- they should have at least told me they were sending me a refurb instead of telling me they were sending me a new replacement. BUt regardless, I would up receiving what I wanted. Just wanted to let people know in case they are in a similar situtation and want a newsystem with quality screen.

    Kent1995,

If you like your current system (even though it is refurbished), I would keep it. Then explain to customer care that since you recieved a refurbished unit although you paid the price of a new unit, you would like to be refunded the difference in cost between a refurb and new unit. I bet the difference would be around 200-300 USD. Given the circumstances, and if you push for it, I am pretty sure that Dell would oblige. If the L1 reps don't do anything, push for a manager and get the issue escalated.

Just about all laptop mfg's use refurb parts for warranty work. And that is what your work was. Yes I agree, sending you a new screen would be the "right" thing to do. But they are not obligated to, nor should you get upset with them if they didn't. It is standard practice.
