The college freshman called me and told me he managed to break the tip off his Dell Studio 15 65W power adapter during the soccer trip this weekend.

    So, he needs a replacement.

I have in my possession two Dell power adapters and I need to know if either will work. Dell Customer No Service only wanted to sell me a new adapter and not tell me whether either of mine will work. Imagine that.

These are the specs on the one he broke:

    65W-AC adapter
    Model: HA65NE1-00
    Rev: A02
    Input: 100-240V ~ 50-60Hz, 1.5A
    Output: 19.5V 3.34A
    PA-2E Family

    I happen to have:

    Dell
    65W AC/DC Adapter
    Model AA22850
    Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz
    Output: 19.5V 3.34A
    PA-12 Family

    and

    Dell Auto-Air AC Adapter
    Model DA65NS3-00
    Dell P/N DK138
    Input
    AC 100-240V~1.5A 50-60Hz
    DC 11-16V 8A
    Output
    19.5V 3.34A
    PA-12 Family

Based on the specs, I think either one would be ok, but I'd like some confirmation before I FEDEX him one or the other.

    TIA.

Your first one (the PA-12) should definitely work, assuming the socket is the same, and as far as I know they've been the same for several years. The second one is more of a travel-oriented adapter, but should work as well, going off the numbers.

    Thanks.

We have one "Yes" vote. I'm looking for some kind of consensus. Do I hear a second?

On the bottom of my Studio 1555:

    "For use with adapter PA-12, PA-2E, PA-3E"

You might want to check the label is the same on yours but it seems the PA-12 you have will work.
