So my replacement screen arrived today... but at my house. To my understanding it was supposed to be sent to a tech who would then call and schedule an appointment. The box arrived with my screen [ugh samsung, but hopefully it works.] I haven't a clue on how to replace the screen. The top of the box says returns can go to 'Hayes office' a local store. Should I go down to the store and ask them about it? I'm definitely confused here.

Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks!

Oh and here is the chat log with the tech:
Agent (XPSOTT Danny_98215): "Here is what you can expect, and what will happen. I will replace the internal LCD kit as it is called only, since the issue does not appear on an external monitor. I will order the part, which will then be sent to a local tech. The part will take 3-5 bus"
iness days to arrive, or less, depending on availability, and when the tech receives the part, they will contact you at the number specified to arrange for an installation appointment.

It obviously wasnt sent to a local tech...

Sorry for bumping, but this is pretty urgent and I'd like to get it taken care of tonight.

Sorry again and also thanks again for any advice or feedback.

If no one knows, I'll just go back to Dell Chat, but I feel more comfortable asking questions on here.

    Thanks again.

EDIT: Also if i have to go to Hayes, they close at 6pm and its 4:41pm now.

I expect they shipped the part to you ready for the engineer to fit when he comes.
I don't think they expect you to fit it.
Might be worth checking again to see when you can expect the engineer.

The best advice I can give, is to call them on the phone.

You are going to have to contact them again anyway to sort out this problem. And phone calls have a lot more leverage, you can really put the pressure on them. Because in order to cut costs, Dell are often reluctant to send over technicians.

Worst case scenario, they might force you to fix the screen yourself. There are a lot of guides on this site that will help you out if you want to do this.

I wouldn't want to do this myself though, in case I break something by accident.

How do I check about the engineer?

Either call or go back on Dell chat and ask for the Danny guy.

Tell them the part has arrived and ask when the engineer is coming to fit it.

Okay I talked to another technician, and apparently they sent the screen to my house on accident and it was supposed to go to the local technician. I guess the online tech is scheduling another service call.

Sorry for my impatient, paranoid, spaziness. Thanks for the replies! Hopefully this all gets worked out soon.

The tech came today and replaced the screen. Unfortunately it still has the same grainy feel. The tech said that that was normal and the LCD in my laptop is dfferent from the one in my sisters 1501. He also said the white cloudiness at the bottom of the screen when watching DVDs is normal too. I don't know, I wish I'd gotten an LG screen.

    Is this true?

If I were you, I will call Dell and try to get LG. I just swapped my screen last night. The perpect one is LG and the grainy one is the brand I never heard of. I forgot the name. I may like DL or something, and its mke in Korea. That screen is grainy and dull. I am typing on my LG scrren right now, and I have 22" Dell monitor to compare too. I don't see any different in picture quality except 22" Dell is brighther because it has 300 nits compare to 220 nits, but LG screen is bright more than enough. I still don't get how can Dell put crappy screen on XPS system. If customers have problem with the screens, and they keep sending out replacement. How can thay make money?

The only thing is that I wouldn't really know how to go about asking for another replacement, since the tech said the grainyness is normal.

I'm going through the same screen crysis. But mine is due to dead pixels on my beautiful LG screen.

I've gotten 2 screen replacement kits all Samsung their all garbage. I didn't even bother installing them. They we're so grainy I got head aches when I tested them.

If you want, call Dell and ask for them to give a screen under these specifications. Give them this serial numbers. It's for my screen which is a LG WXGA True life.

I just gave it to management yesterday so hopefully my new screen coming Tuesday is another LG not some ugly Samsung, CMO or AUO

I will try that, but is it possible to give them this on dell chat too? I'm not really a phone person. And do I just tell them my replacement screen has the same grainy feel again? also does that number apply to m1530 screens too?

    thanks

EDIT: I've also been noticing a new problem, when I pick up the open laptop and set it on my lap, the lcd/lid falls backward and I have to pull it back up again, doesnt feel stable. Is this normal? Even picking it up it kind of falls down

The top part of my dell sticker on the middle of the lid is now missing, and I had to snap the top of my lid back in.

If I call or chat with dell, can I get a replacement sticker sent out?

I still don't know what to do about the lid flopping open more.

    Any advice appreciated
