I need some advice on replacing the hard drive for my Dell Inspiron 6000.
I'm not quite sure on how to find a hard drive that has the right interface.
Here is the hard drive model that was inside: http://www.superwarehouse.com/Toshiba_60GB_SuperSlim_MK6026GAX__Hard_Drive/HDD2194/ps/394084
Is this replacement on the Dell website the correct hard drive for my laptop?

Kepher - the hard drive on the Dell website will work in your 6000 - but here's a link to some better deals on NewEgg (they're all ATA-6):

All you will have to do is remove the adaptor from your old HDD and (carefully - the pins are easy to bend) install it on the new HDD. I'm hoping to dual-boot XP and Vista on a friend's 6000 in a few days. Good luck... -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You can essentially use any 2.5" PATA/IDE hard drive. The 6000 is pretty old, so you may not be able to recognize more than 120GB on a single partition (not sure about that; maybe K-TRON or someone can shed some light).
One of the best PATA notebook drives on the market right now is this Samsung:

A service manual for the 6000 can be found on Dell's support site, here:

The Samsung HM160HC is a good drive, but I think the inspiron 6000 has a bios limit of about 75GB
You should look at the Samsung HM080GC (80gb 5400rpm), it is the single head version of the HM160HC, so it performs pretty much the same.

The last few posts mention the HM080GC, that is the best drive for your system.
If you cannot find a HM080GC, you can get the HM160HC, but you will need to make multiple partitions to be able to use all 160Gb of space

The I6000 is subject to the 48bit LBA limitation so it will only see the first 137GB of any drive installed. There is software available to get round this but there are limitations; some hard drives won't work with it.
Even without installing any extra software it should be possible to use all 160GB providing none of the partitions exceed 137GB.
This assumes that Windows XP SP1 or later is installed.
BTW Check the drive height is OK. Some machines won't fit thicker drives though I think the 6000 will take most.
