So I have some light bleed on the bottom of the screen. It is not super bad but I would like to get it fixed if I can. The LCD on my Vostro1400 is Chi Mei brand is the standard WXGA screen.

I do not want to send the laptop back to get the screen changed as I have heard some horror stories when the laptop returns.
I am thinking about changing it myself and asking Dell to send me a replacement screen. Has anyone replaced it on V1400? How hard it is?, (I am an engineer btw.) Anyone have any manual expaling how to change?
Which screen brand to get meaning which one is the best or top couple ?
    thx for all the feedback.

Screens are not considered to be a user-upgradeable part. Dell sees it one way: either you have an at-home warranty, or you send it in.

Mine is coming back tomorrow, sent it on tuesday. I listed instructions on the paper(instruction on how to send in laptop) to show how to check for grainy and light leakage, and I told the online CSR to leave a note for the technician not to get AUO LCD. I hope it's SEC or LG :p

Screen is very easy to replace. I have done so with my E1405. About 30 minutes job. If you can convince Dell tech support that you are an engineer or technician of computer, and you can't have down time with your laptop. Then, Dell may sent you the LCD to you for you to replace yourself.

I had bad experience sending my laptop back. Dell totally scratched up my laptop when I sent my e1405 back. Luckily, they are pretty good in taking responsiblity about that. BUT... you have to waste another week to ship to depot and get it back...
