I have a new studio 1555 with a 500gb HD in it. It has vista 64bit.
I have an OCZ Vertex 120gb and 30gb. I tried to put the 30gb version in and install windows xp 32 (nlited copy, which installs on anything else, including my dad's old Inspiron 1705... which has a 30gb Vertex). It blue-screened before I was asked to select which drive.
Then I tried to install the regular OS (Vista 64 Premium) that came with the computer and it went all the way to right before the end of the first installation process and but then said it couldn't alter the registry and canceled the installation.
What do I need to do to replace the hard-drive with a solid state drive? Can it be done or is it locked out?
edit: Haven't tried the 120 gb one because it currently has an OS on it and is currently being used. I was going to if I thought it would work but erasing it for just testing would be dumb.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
You should not need to do anything special when installing an OS on a good SSD (and yes, the Vertex qualifies as a good SSD); it's unusual that you are having a problem. I'd try formatting the drive and trying the installs again... you could also install your OS onto the old HDD and clone it over to the Vertex (like with Acronis).

I'm assuming that you've either:
a. slipstreamed the AHCI drivers onto the nlited version or
b. altered the BIOS to ATA mode
If not, then maybe this is the problem?
