Hello, if anyone can help me. I'm thinhing to upgrade my Centrino processor, from 1.5 Ghz to as higher frequency as is possible. From INTEL website I found that the Banias processor (1 Mb RAM cache) have 478 pins and the newer model, Dothan, with 2 Mb RAM cache, have 479 pins. Some knows if these 2 types of processors are directly compatible? In my oppinion mean time Dell offers same laptop model with any of two types of processors, maybe they'll use the same motherboard, being BIOS job to reconigze correctly the type of processor. Do someone more about this issue? Thanks.

The Dothans were designed to be drop-in compatible with the older chip's sockets. Update your BIOS and you should have no problems.
