Is there an easier way than taking off the panel, the keyboard, unhooking the monitor, etc etc etc?

Most computer stores are NOT going to be able to replace your notebooks video card.

well i got it undone and put in and closed everything. Im typing from it right now. But not my internet is running incredibly slow, and the ethernet port wont recognize that I have a cable plugged into it.

Plus when I go to change resolution and color settings, it says it changed but everything is still ginormous.

some good news, I uninstalled and reinstalled the ethernet, just rebooted it and my ethernet port now glows orange when it's got a plug. Yay

[EDIT] More good news! After installing the 84.56 driver my resolution is back to 1920x1200! ANd thankfully, those icons were massive!!

[ANOTHER EDIT] Ethernet port is actually working, and so is the WiFi, everything is running as it should. YAY!

Can I replace the video card in the E1405? I haven't gotten mine yet, but after reading some of the forums in here, it sounds like the default video card isn't that great. I'm new to this whole laptop thingy...this is/ will be my first one!!

You can only upgrade to a new card if your current card is a dedicated card. Also, you can only upgrade to specific cards that are offered for your model.

too bad there isn't a way to put a dedicated card in my E1405. The video card is by far my system's weakest component.

I got one of those 35% off and stacked it with a $35 off and maxed it out...

Intel Core Processor Duo T2500 (2MB/2.00GHz/667MHz)
    TrueLife Wide-screenWXGA+
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 533MHZ,2 DIMM
    100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
    Windows XP Media Center Edition
    8X DVD+/-RW Drive
    Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth

So, I CAN change the video card? Any suggestions on which one I should go with? Thanks!

Then no, you can not upgrade to a better video card. You card is integrated so you can not remove it.

    Sorry.

Yeah, the E1405 is a bit disappointing in the graphics department, but nice otherwise. I think Dell should have other 14" and 15.4" notebooks besides the Inspiron/Latitude with better GPUs. The XPS M1210 is a good start, but I would like to see an M1410/1510 with Go7600. That would be nice.

So after hearing all this about actually upgrading a card in a 1705, I have a question. Does the 1210 also use the MXM or what ever its called nvidia card setup, so that it too is upgradeable? I know that in such a small notebook there are thermal constraints, but im kinda just asking for fun, and "mabey" I could upgrade later to say a 8400 or something similar to the 7400 in size/thermal someday. Thanks.

The chances of you being able to upgrade the card in the 1210 are very slim. It's not MXM, so the only way you'd be able to upgrade it is if Dell offers a better card in that system at some point.

Can anyone tell me what cards are available for the first Gen XPS?
    And for the 9300?

I am trying to decide between a new XPS, or and older one with the 3.4 and then upgrade the video card, and other stuff.
