Offhand? I'd say that machine (especially if it's in good condition) is worth around $300 or so, especially with the MS Office license. It's more than that for a copy of Office by itself (depending on the version)

your system isn't bad at all, i suggest you upgrade some of the specs like maybe a 80gb hd and keep the 40 in a usb case for yourself or possibly the memory but the only concern is that the returns from this investment might not be that great... think about it. you could possibly use this if you don't get anyone to buy it. also i hear sony has this thing where they buy any dell in working condition for 500 rebate towards another sony pc, so that might be worth something to you.

personally, i would not spend more than a couple hundred bucks for it.

you can look for simlarly spec'd notebooks on ebay to get an idea of how much they are going for

Dude, when NEW dualcore computers are in the $650-$1200 range, what can you expect?

Your computer is used. It has a decent, but nothing special single core CPU and integrated graphics. A 40GB HD is small these days. 512 is the bare minimum these days. You bought it for $670 NEW.

I know you want to hear something like it's worth $600, but it's not.

You got some use out of it, now sell it off and upgrade and be done with it. Hardly anything depreciates as fast as computer hardware, that's just the way it is.
