    Hi,

I have recently bought a Dell XPS M1530 laptop from a person who bought it from laptopsdirect.net. The person claims that he can transfer the ownership of this laptop on the Dell's website.

However, I am concerned about two things. Firstly, laptopsdirect.net invoice says:
"The warranties provided are non-transferable. We reserve the right to use third party companies to cover any warranties that we provide. Manufacturer's warranties take priority."
This seems fine though if I assume that the Dell's warranty has the priority here.
    Secondly, the Quantity column on:
    http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...rt/my_systems_info/en/details?c=uk&l=en&s=gen
is 10 for every item. Does it mean that laptopsdirect.net ordered 10 identical laptops and there is only one service tag for them? Wouldn't that mean that it is impossible to transfer the ownership of only one laptop?

    Thx

You can transfer the warranty from the other person. You will just need to call dell and provide them with some details (home address) of the past owner.

So the service tag is unique for each laptop and I should just ignore the quantities? Otherwise, I guess the person would have to transfer the ownership of 10 laptops.

The service tag is unique for each laptop. I am not exactly sure what the exact specifics of the situation you are in, but when you transfer the warranty to you, dell will ask you to provide a few pieces of information from the last owner to transfer the warranty.

Well, the person who sold me the laptop said he would transfer the warranty, so I'll just wait now. I guess he knows what to do then.

Thank you for the reply, I feel so much better now ;) It only seems weird to me that the quantity says 10, but well, who cares if the tag is unique.

Oh, he must have bought 10 of the computers (to get a discount) only to resell them. It sounds like he knows what he is doing, and you should be fine.

Well, I'm not sure HE bought 10 of them. Probably, laptopsdirect.net bought 10 and he bought only one from them. If he bought more he would probably sell more at the Polish eBay equivalent. So there are 2 middlemen (not sure if it's the right word) here. Are you sure then that service tags are unique?

Edit: OK, I e-mailed laptopsdirect.net and they cleared up things a bit:
"The quantity forum indicates that this laptop was purchased as a batch of
10 units. If you type in XXXXXXX [service tag of some other laptop form the 10], you will get exactly the same. They were
from the same batch. If you transfer your warranty, you will transfer the
warranty to your laptop ONLY, not for those other 9 in the same batch.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear."

    One bonus question ;)
If the warranty is transferred to me with my Polish address, will I be able to get support from Dell outside my country without transferring it again? Unfortunately, I've got Samsung screen, but I'm soon going to Dublin and I wondered if I can argue with them there ;)

I am not familiar or experienced with warranty transfers across different countries. I only know them within the united states.

And again, each service tag is unique. There are no two alike.
