I did try Google and the search of this forum, but nothing really came up like this. I'm looking for full sized screenshots of a 15.4 inch screen with the different resolutions to check out the difference and if it's still readable for me. Screenshots with icons, text, MS Word and a website open for example.

I would like to see the difference between:
    - 1.280 x 800
    - 1.440 x 900
    - 1.680 x 1.050

Since these are the resolutions offered by Dell.

I read all this stuff about place, DPI, etc. Lot's of numbers and calculations. But I just want to find out what's right for me by visualising it. Is there a website out there that has side by side screenshots so I can compare?

PS: Feel free to move this topic if it's elsewhere better suited.

You have to see each resolution on the same sized laptop screen to tell much of anything besides the relative size of icons. Remember, you'd be looking at a .jpg (loss based image format) on your current monitor that most likely isn't the same resolution as the resolution you want to examine. There's two strikes against you right there. :)

P.S.: I've always been the "happy median" kind of guy. Never the highest, never the lowest. Right in the middle is usually just right for 99.99% of people.

I just want to check out how much smaller it is compared to the standard size. It doesn't matter if there is any quality loss, I'm not checking out the quality. It's more a size issue.

If I have 3 pictures, I could resize them to the same size so I can have an idea how much difference there really is.

I also want to know too.

Since want to buy the new Dell 1520 with 1680 x 1050, but worry of that will let the text too small for read and work.

I using this notebook for game, office application, watching web site, and design.

If the 1680 x 1050 's text is too small to see, then it is hard to do office job well.

It is why we hope anyone that have the different 15.4 notebook at 1440 x 900 or 1680 x 1050 Photo.

    Inspired911,

I have the old Dell 6400 with the matter 1280 x 800 screen, I can take the photo and post here for you to reference after Mon. Please keep care on this post.

Hope other nice person can provide the photo of 1680 x 1050 soon too.

Unless you view them on a 15.4” you can’t get a real idea about the font size. Because, for example fonts of a 1440 x 900 screen shot will look bigger in a 17” than on a 15.4.

Thank you, but it is just a Screen Capture or it is a Photo take by DC or DSLR and then crop by PhotoShop. I think above way take the Photo is total not same at the real apply.

I and Inspired911 (I think) ismean the take photo by DC or DSLR and then post to here see how different of the res. if it is a Screen Capture, it is maybe not same of what we image of.

Whatover, I still thank you of your kindly help.

    Hi Inspired911 and explorer1979,

I don't know if this is of any help to you, but I took a photo of the 1400 x 900 screen that I have on my Inspiron, and then lowered the resolution to 1200 x 800 and took another picture. They haven't come out too well, unfortunately, but you can just about make out the difference in size.

I love my Inspiron's screen, and the 1400 x 900 resolution makes everything wonderfully crisp. I don't find anything too small, to be honest. Plus, you can always alter the font and icon size, zoom in on Word documents, etc.

Sorry I can't help with the 1680 x 1050 resolution. Personally, I don't think I'd want to go quite that high on a 15.4" screen, but it is all down to personal preference.

What explorer is trying to say is that the camera can capture the refresh rate on the monitors whereas these things are indiscernible to the human eye. The overlap of these refresh waves is responsible for the dotdot pattern I believe.

If you can, go to Best Buy. Most of the laptops will be 1280x800, but they may have a Thinkpad T60 widescreen or an Asus G1 with 1680x1050 res. They may also have a MacBook Pro, which has 1440x900. Also, look at the 14" 1280x800 laptops... this will have a pixel size pretty close to the pixel size on a 15" 1440x900... so things will look about the same size, just with more screen area on the 15" 1440x900.
