My Dell Inspiron 1420 is a mess, and I'm considering restoring it to factory settings. I wanted to make sure I have the right materials to get it back to where it was when I bought it.

I looked around for all the materials it came with, and I've found CD's for:
    -Microsoft Works 9
    -Drivers and Utilities
    -Dell Media Direct 3.5

Do I need something for Vista or anything else to get my computer back and running?

You need the operating system DVD that came with it. My 1420 definitely had a Windows Vista DVD and not a restore partition.
