- short version: have anyone returned laptop to dell? did they refund tax? did they cover shipping fee to them? how was the experience?
- long version:
i always assumed that any company will refund price of item + tax of item when you return product to them, and you pay shipping fee.
i bought an inspiron 15 7537 and because i was not smart, i didn't know this uses the intel U ultra low power line dual core, clocked at 1.8 Ghz and it's slow for me, compare to my brother's i7-3612QM quad core it's like nothing.
anyway i was chatting with dell, the rep said they can waive the restocking fee 15%, but they do not cover shipping fee to them, which is understandable; but when i asked "of course dell refund tax, right?" they said "tax is collected by the state and they do not refund it. and i was shocked.
so i lost $110. or the rep didn't have knowledge about this? amazon, HP, apple,... well i think all companies refund tax when customer returns.
also last time i was talking to another rep, they said although the rule is they don't cover shipping fee, that rep could make an exception for me. so it seems like each rep has different answers, and i don't know what to believe in
does anyone have experience with this? i live in CA if that changes anything.
thanks. btw i'm new to this forums![]()

I'd keep calling them to try to get your tax back. Also, call whoever handles tax in your state to get their answers on how they deal with item refunds.
In my experience, when returning items, I always get my tax back when I return an item.
