Ive been looking at the numbers a bit, and i actually recieved a BAD 1210 from the dell outlet, the screen inverter seems to make a horrible buzzing noise, and it just wont do for a "new" laptop. Anyways. I paid roughly around 940 with shipping for the following:

    1.83 C2d
    1gb ram
    80gb HD 5400
    7400
    1yr warranty.

Ive been looking at the numbers, and thinking about upgrading the ram and HD in the 1210. However, before i placed an order for the 1210, i came very close to recieving a Decked out 1420 with the follow:

    1420:
    2ghz 800
    160gb 7200
    2gb ram
    8400
    1440x900 TL
    6/9 cells
    1yr mail in.
    Price about 1100$

Now, id like to upgrade the warranty if i get the 1420. I made another thread for that a few hours ago. Basically what it says is "anyone getting the mail-in warranty, and recieving a upgrade flyer for 3yr @home for sig. less than at purchase time"?

to me, once i spend the 170$ on a new HD for the 1210, and another 50$ for another gig stick (i have one already), it will come close to touching the 1420 price tag.

Should i just tell dell to come get the defective 1210, and go with a new 1420?

    your thoughts....

With XPS systems, I believe you can tell Dell to make you another one if its broke, while keeping your old one, then just switch out the hard drives when the new one comes. Just a thought.

yes they are currently doing that, but im just not sure if the price warrants the system. doesnt it seem like a better deal for the 1420?
