I've got a new i6000 and overall I love it... I'm a little bummed about the fan on all the time, but I haven't done some of the things I hear will make a difference with that (like update the BIOS and get that I8Fangui software) and I think Ill be ok with those solutions.
Another medium complaint (actually increasing in annoyance as I use it more) is that the little push button/thingy that ejects the PCMCIA card will NOT go back in unless I play with it multiple ways... just a pain in the butt.
BUT the biggest issue is that 2 times (in the first 5 days) the power button did NOT turn off the laptop (as I have it set up to do in the Power Properties section). The first time this happened, I just assumed it was shutting down and I put it in my laptop bag and went out on a date. I came back like 3.5 hours later to find it churning away in my bag, fans-a-blazing, and SO HOT I could barely touch it! I was freaked out by that!!
The small piece of metal between the space key and the touchpad got ever so slightly warped... if I didn't show it to you, you probably wouldn't notice... but if you lean over and look from the side you can see a couple of small bumps from where the heat warped it... and I've been trying to decide if I want to live with that or send it back. On one hand, it's really not THAT big of a deal... and on the other hand I paid OVER $2500 for this unit (with top tier support, docking station, etc, etc) and I think I do deserve to have it be "PERFECT".
What do you think? Other than the slightly warped metal, it sure seems to run just fine Should I live with it or send it back?
Also, it's about 10 days now since I received it... what should I know about the return policy? I'd rather hear about that from people on the board, rather than get the scoop from Dell! Let me know and do's and donts regarding returning the unit.
I'm also bummed because I have spent the first 8 days configuring it EXACTLY the way I want it, including loading all the software on it I want, tweaking the configuration, etc.... if I send it back, I'm not that familiar with back-up techniques. Last time I "backed up" my system it held all the data, but I had to reinstall all the software... is that the best way to do it, or is there a reliable way to back up EVERYTHING?
Damn... sorry for the extra long post, but I'm just looking for some guidance...
ANY tips/suggestions/opinions will be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks so much,

Thanks for the input, both on for the laptop AND my website!!
I don't mind the commentary on the site at all, I don't mean to turn people off... it was originaly more of a joke than anything... but eventually I want ALL kinds of items on there to help people who want to make a difference in the world... anyway, the rest of the board might not be interested in this (and I do want their response for the laptop piece).
If you'd like to chat more (or offer more opinions on the site) let me know and I'll be more than happy to discuss them with you. If you want to lend a hand, I can even give you a login and you can go to town on parts of it. Send me an e-mail to [email protected], but you'll have to respond to my spam filter (only the first time).
I'd love more feedback if you have it!
Thanks for taking the time!

Craig,
I saw a login feature. I personally love the idea and stuck it in my favorites . I Intend to look it over later tonight or tomorrow again and then keep checking for updates. I told you that I write horrible and it might end up sounding wrong or being taken wrong. Would I save it in my favorites if I didn't really like it or believe it has huge potential (an excellent idea) if I were trying to critisize you??? That should hopefully say more! I'm a certain age and I choose to not judge something by Just the cover. I sent it to 2 people to see what they would do.
Enough said about that! You did add it in your posts and should expect some people might comment even though It's not the topic. I did see it before I posted to you!<hr height='1' noshade id='quote'></font id='quote'></blockquote id='quote'>
I do appreciate your (and anyone else's) feedback and certainly don't take it wrong, you're just making your observations- I'm kewl with that. I'm open to anyone else's opinions as well. It's been A LOT of months since even touched the site... but I have a pretty grand vision for it anyway... when time permits

Did you read some of the reviews about the 6000 so you know how it should work. <hr height='1' noshade id='quote'></font id='quote'></blockquote id='quote'>
I actually have not read any of the reviews, but will try to when I have time. A couple of weeks ago my truck got broken into and they took my i8600 that I loved, and the i6000 seemed like a logical replacement. If you have any links to good indepth reviews on the i6000, I'd love to get a link (otherwise I'll get around to finding that stuff). Like you said- first priority is to send this one back!
Thanks again for your input!

Thanks a ton Gargoyle, I'll have to go check it out.
As an update, I got on the phone with Dell on Thursday, and it was a breeze to have them send me a replacement machine. They treated me really well and I was on the phone for less then 10 minutes.
I've read so many nightmares, on the boards, of people haveing trouble with this and I was AMAZED at how easy it was. They said it would take 3-5 days to build and then they'd overnight it to me.
Less than 10 minutes and they treated me really well. WAY to go Dell!!
