For those of you that have returned stuff to Dell, I have a few questions. The form says to look for some whacky barcode with 9 digits to put on the return label, but I can't find any 9 digit number aside from the order #. There's already a number filled in on the return label but it is only 8 digits.

And secondly, it says to return it in the SAME BOX from which you obtained your replacement part. Well, I received a replacement computer, so do I put the old one in the new box? Because if I do that the service tag on the box doesn't match the service tag on the computer inside.

But yeah this is more confusing than it should be.

It doesnt matter what the box says. You need to return one complete system. They have sent you a return label and you need only to keep the tracking number from that, nothing else.

Pack up the system and send it away. You can call Dell with the tracking number if you like but don't lose it.

Then...go to Dell.com warranty section and enter your new service tag there. It will confirm your warranty has been transferred. If not, give them a call.

Alright then I have everything packed away nice and neat, so I have that part done. What about the return #. Since there is already something written there (three letters and eight numbers) should I just leave it?

As long as you write down the tracking number from the return label for your safety, don't worry about it.

It's on that carbon paper so I think I just get a copy of my own to tear off. I'll just scan the whole thing to be safe.

I think they said 7 days from when you receive the new unit if you did in exchange.

If you are just returning it I'd do it as soon as possible.
