    Hey guys,

I was wondering if I could change my order after it has been built and is on the way to the country? I tried calling Dell and they are the biggest retards I talked to. I was mainly wanting to downgrade my RAM and harddrive. What can I say if I just want to return it?

    I live in NZ btw.

I am not sure how it works in NZ. However, in the US If it has already shipped then you will have to wait for it to arrive and then contact dell and arrange a return. Or, you could contact them and tell them you want to refuse the delivery. They can set up a refusal return authorization. Usually, if you just refuse and don't notify them, it delays the credit a bit longer. Either way, you're looking at up to approximately 30 days before you are credited.

Suppose if I order today and coming thursday a good deal come in..Can i cancel my order that time and reorder again?

You mentioned...if it hasnt been shipped...so if i order today..how much approx time will i have to cancel the order without any penalty and full refunds?

How are the refunds made? Back to credit card or Dell keeps it for future purchase?

    Thnx!

I placed an order on Sunday (12/9), then canceled it on Weds. (12/12) to get a different configuration. I immediately re-placed the order, then canceled and reordered last night (12/13) when I saw the better price deals. I did the "no interest until Jan. 2009" through my Dell Preferred Account, and both times I canceled, the rep had me stay on the line while he "reset" my credit. So it was credited immediately.

I'm never going to actually receive my 1530 if I keep canceling. :p But I'm loving the $$$ I've saved! And, actually, my ESD is only two days later than it was when I placed the original order.

You can cancel your order anytime before it ships. There is no penalty. After it ships however, you are subject to re-stocking fees. You typically are not charged until the item is ready to ship.

Refunds are made via the same method of payment used. So if you pay with a credit card, it will go back to your card but it takes some time to get credit once you've already been charged. I suppose you could ask them to credit your dell account if you plan to use the funds on another purchase.

I usually pay with a Dell preferred account and I find that the easiest to deal with.

I tried to change something on an M1710 order a year ago, half an hour after ordering and before shipping and they refused as it had already gone for processing... Probably a lame excuse to save themselves some work, I can't say I forced the issue so if I had said ok then cancel it I am sure they would have done what I asked.

    Their return policy states:
7.2 New Dell-branded products (excluding Dell co-branded products) purchased under these Terms and Conditions directly from Dell by an end-user Customer may be returned by Customer up to fifteen (15) days from the date of the invoice for a replacement, refund or credit of the purchase price in accordance with Dell's "Total Satisfaction Policy" in effect in New Zealand on the date of the invoice. The refund or credit will not include any shipping and handling charges forming part of the purchase price. Returned products must be received by Dell in as-new or as-shipped-by-Dell condition, including conformance to invoiced specification, and all of the manuals, diskettes, CDs, power cables and other items included with a product must be returned with it.

Would it be possible to just ask for them to send me the downgraded RAM and hard drive and I send them my RAM and hard drive to get a refund? Or will I have to cancel my order and start again? I don't really want to cancel because they don't sell the Turbo Memory anymore...

If you plan on going XP, rip out the HDD and keep it and put a new one in for XP installation. keep things easy for resale & reverting back to Vista.

There's a recovery partition on the hd, along wth everything you need to reinstall the Dell Vista image with almost no effort. Buying a new hard drive to avoid this seems like a real waste of money and a hd.
