Are you able to return a laptop free of charge because you didn't like it?

There is technically a 15% restocking fee which Dell may or may not charge you with.

Nope, Dell Australia will not charge you a 15% re-stocking thing. That is an Alienware thing from what I know.

Dell will only charge you for the delivery of the machine, which in my case was $150.00AU. If you have had major issues, will buy another machine from them or something along these lines they will often waive the delivery fee.

When I purchased my original XPS M1730, I was worried about the performance of the 8700's in it. Ended up reading Dell's website, saw the 15 day money back thing, and ordered one.

Low and behold, I wasn't too impressed with the performance. After 14 days, called up, said I wasn't happy with the performance, the lady asked me if she could get tech to call me back, I said yes. They called, I explained what was going on, they agreed, got a call back from customer service saying they would refund the money to my credit card in a week minus $150 for delivery costs, and would send a courier to pick up the machine in a week.

Overall I was quite happy with Dell's service, a few months later they finally released the 8800's, so I re-ordered. I have it now and am very happy with it.

Just go onto Dell's website, all this info is on it. Again, please read the US Dell website as they could have differences in service, but I doubt they would be much different to Dell Australia.

Yea see I ordered the xps m1330, but I am afraid that it might be too small and not exactly what I want. If I would want to return it, I would just get the xps m1530. Hopefully they won't charge me anything, I didn't pay for delivery because of a special deal, and hopefully they wouldn't charge me for them picking it up?

They don't charge you shipping costs at all, even when your return it. However, there may be a 15% restocking fee...

In your case, I don't think they will charge you anything for the exchange...

But does Dell do exchanges? How would they know whether you're really going to exchange it for another system and not just get a refund?

You can say, "I don't like it because...(good reasons such as I have to spend hundreds of dollars to buy new software for vista, etc)." I never get charged of shipping when I return to Dell, No restocking fee also.

Dell uses the same return policy for the outlet as with a normal purchase.

What if, in a week of purchasing your machine, dell cuts the cost of the system by a significant $250 dollars?

I bought my 1530, and overall happy with it, outside of a few things (speakers, track pad, and my Dell Media Direct CD is a dud).

However, I paid $1980 AUD for it.

I go to the website today, and no special promotion or anything, but I can now get the EXACT same system (only with a Penryn 8300 processor, instead of my orignal T7700) for $1739 AUD!

Hell, I could turn that around and upgrade to a T9300 and get it for $1880 AUD. That's still $100 dollars cheaper.

I'm within my return policy and this price cut is giving me significant incentive to try and get a return.

8 days, with the 15% restocking fee, though Dell no longer lists it on the website. I would call a representative to make sure.

Dell does not have a price guarantee/price match outside of the USA.

There can't be a restocking fee as that would break UK Distance Selling Rules. Which state that you can get a full refund within 7 days of receiving the goods, even if you have used them.
