    Hey all,

I've been looking over this forum for the past couple of days, as the final approach to me purchasing my laptop looms closer.

I've seen that sometimes people have bought things that haven't quite been as they expected, i.e really grainy screens, laptop freezes, buttons dont work etc.

With just the basic "retrun to base" cover, what does that exactly entitle me to? If it comes and its broken or whatever, can I send it back free of charge for them to fix it or a replacement? How does it work?

    Thanks for all your help,
    Jordan.

You generally have 30 days (some say 21) to return the laptop no questions asked. It's Dell's Total Satisfaction Guarantee.

Beyond that, it depends on what kind of warranty you purchase.

In the US it's 21 calendar days to return the laptop for a refund.
You can also get the laptop replaced, though if the replacement is also defective and you're past your 21 days, I don't think you can get your money back (not without an argument anyway). They'd probably replace the replacement with a refurb or tell you to send the one you want to keep to Dell Depot.

    Hey thanks for the replies.

If after the 21 days are up (for some reason on my UK dell site it says a year :S) and something buggers up, I then have to pay to have it fixed yeah?

Also, as I just said, my dell.co.uk website says 1 year return to base. Im looking at the 1520 by the way.

Am I looking at the wrong bit? What would the warranty allow me to do etc, would it just extend the return to base length?

    Cheers,

I think "return to base" just means you can send the laptop to Dell Depot (or whatever they call the Dell Servicing place in the UK) to be repaired -- as opposed to on site, where they'd send someone to your house to repair the laptop and you wouldn't have to mail the laptop to them.

yes thats right...they will pay for you to ship it to them and pay to ship it back to you. it will usually take about a week to get it back. you pay the more money for next day onsite where there will be a dell technician at your house the next day to fix your laptop.

i believe it is 21/30 days for the 1520/vostro from the day the laptop is shipped that you can return the laptop. not after the day you receive it. a good thing to know, mark that ship date! if you really want to return it, i would suggest doing it within 2 weeks.
