Ordered 2nd XPS 1530 Dec 21st. (with screen WSXGA+ 1680X1050) got it on Jan 2nd. called dell tech support to replace my WSXGA+ LCD "was grainy and dim" .

Got my first replacement LCD Jan 9th. well they send me WXGA 1280X800 instead of my original WSXGA+ 1680x1050.

Called them again Jan 9th. send me another screen got it Jan 14th . again they send me WXGA 1280 X 800.

Jan 14th Called again requested whole new laptop: send me a new laptop got it jan. 21rd .again the wrong screen resolution they sent me WXGA+ 1400X900 instead of the original WSXGA+1680X1050.

Called again they send me another laptop. got it Jan.25th this time was the right WSXGA+ but the screen is worse than the first one I had originaly. Back to square ONE. :realmad:

called again . Jan 26th .They offered me a return with full refund. TOOK the OFFER.

End of story. I hope so......

Does any one think that I should buy from Dell again?

the photos are diffrence between Samsung SEC3350 - Dell P/N: RW985 on the left side and the LG Philips LPLDF00 - Dell P/N: XP059 on the right. notice the diffrence when you look in angle. both are on full brightness no flash.

Wow, that sucks :( Sorry to hear you had to go through so much trouble, and still in the end, did not get what you wanted. I have been looking to get a new Dell for myself (I currently have the Dell Inspiron 1521, and love it) but with all the screen problems, I think I will buying an HP instead. What will you get now that you have returned the XPS ??

Don't succumb to the fashion movement that is Apple.

Try the HP's. My sister owns a dv6000 and the screen is great, puts the one on my 1520 to shame despite the same res. Viewing angles incomparable.

I'm happy that I'm done with it.

And even though you were having problems getting the particular LCD you wanted you should still consider yourself lucky that Dell was willing to do so many LCD replacements and machine swaps. If you buy a MacBook you better hope you like it cause Apple doesn't accept returns for refund on a custom build.

one advantage of buying apple is going to the store and seeing what you are buying.
I have not made up my mind yet on anything. I need a break for couple of weeks before I start looking to buy again.

Maybe Dell will pair a good screen with the LED once it comes out. Hopefully they will learn from this current mess. Although, I'm not holding my breath.

I'm a HUGE Dell fan with 7 Dells currently. He has a legit issue, if you arent happy with a 1500-2000 dollar laptop, you should be able to get a refund. And if you go with HP, Im sure youll find a sweet laptop. Dell fans arent "haters". Dell is FAIR, and if you dont like it, then no one blames you for moving on once youve got your cash back.

Im deciding between Dell M1530 and Alienware M15X, thats a hard call!

I had a DV6000T just before I order the m1530. I saw the opportunity to sell it and I saw the deal for the Dell. I got it with everything loaded out pretty much for $1100. Now the Dell had over the HP is that:
    Better graphics cards.
    Higher Resolution screens.
    Looks more professional.
System is much cooler. (In the DV6000) series the hdd is located under a chipset and the dissipates the heat into the hdd compartment. I had the hdd heat up to 55F regularly.
    Lighter.

I like the m1530 a lot but stuff like uneven wobbly bases, wrong resolution screens are killing me. There really is no other laptops that I want out there. The Macbook Pro is out of my budget.

I was hoping this was so, but I also got a Samsung screen yesterday and it is really bad. It's really the worse LCD I have ever seen and to see it in Dell's "top of the line" model is beyond disappointing.

After using it for just a day I've decided to return this machine because it just looks bad and I'm going to have to look at this screen for at least 2-3 years.

It's too bad because the 1530 is really a great machine other than the screen.

Don't wait on the LED, I think it's only coming anytime soon in WXGA only.

I've owned around 13 Dell notebooks over the years. I can see why if this was your first experience, you would never use Dell again. I'm going through something similar, but not as bad...yet. But I will stick with Dell, because before this everything has been relatively smooth. But when I say stick with Dell, I only mean when they have the right product for what I want at the time. I buy other manufacturers, too, but I prefer to buy from Dell if they have what I want. I hope they're not changing for the worse. I number of times I've seen them sending the wrong screen resolution is a lot. And this grainy, sparkly screen problem has been around for 3 years now and they still haven't fixed it. That's a really bad sign.

You must have a really bad luck on Dell. My M1530 is alright except I had to swap the screen by myself with the replacement unit. :D I am typing on the computer right now, and there is no complain here. You may want to try your luck again becausse if I were you, I would. I don't think I am going to see any better discount than the current one on XPS line for a long time. If I have to wait for Penryn and LED, and I have to pay $600 more. I just take the good old Santa Rosa right now.

My screen is bright and crisp. Yes, it is WXGA, but I think it is good for my choice. As I mention so many times, I don't want to strain my eyes, and I think WXGA is good enough for me.

Just try to re-order again. You can't be bad luck forever.

dvmxps1530, sorry it did not work out for you.

I just requested a return on my m1530 because the screen is really bad. I've been following your story in the forums and I knew I did not want to have the same experience.

After calling tech support and customer care and getting a pretty good feeling that I would not be able to get an LG screen without spending a tremendous amount of time. I decided to cut my losses and not waste any time trying to get the LG.

To those thinking of purchasing an xps m1530 I say good luck, but it sounds like all the 1680x1050 screens are samsungs at the moment. I hope you get a good screen though. Mine actually wasn't as bad as the photos in these forums but it still looked very bad (grain, grey tint, impossible to get whites). I hope Dell starts using real screens for for their xps line.

To those that got the nice LG screen I say enjoy and take care of your laptop! It is such a nice laptop. Even with the bad screen I feel regret for having to return it. Everything else about it was nearly perfect. I liked the way it felt, the weight, the look, the keyboard and the speed were all great. It's a laptop I would have enjoyed owning for years.

Now looking for a new laptop...

Yea, I have my third and final replacement on its way. If it is a samsung panel, then it is going back for good. Next up will be either a Sony Vaio (this was my first laptop and it was superb quality!) or the M15x (although it's pretty pricey!).

It doesn't make sense. The Macbook Air is a different class of notebook designed for a completely different purpose than the 1530. If the OP wanted a 1530, he/she wouldn't want a Macbook Air.

Wow DVM, I am sorry for you.
Anyway you are very kind posting pictures!
I would suggest to buy HP or Vaio for a good screen and a good look. Bad experiences you can have them with any brand.
Anyway I had bad experience with Dell too, with my first note, and I am sticking with it, as I still found it to be one of the best brand. if they only would improve the configurability (as they offer different quality of display brands, they must give us the possibility to choose not only the type but also the brand, even paying a different price for the best one, as it is normal in any shop) and their CUstomer Care, they would be perfect. Almost.

I got my m1530 and the screen isn't as "clean" as my HP. According to SiSoftware Sandra the screen is a Samsung/Seiko Epson and I do have the 1680x1050 screen. What I do notice with the HP is that their glossy screen is really reflective and unusable in bright lights while the XPS's has lesser reflection. According to the manual it's has an anti-glare coating which probably why it's grainy. One word of caution about HP with AMD chips, don't get it with the Broadcom wireless. Lots of people, including me, are up in arms about the card conking out (mine took a year). And this includes all models with the AMD/Broadcom combination. HP is well aware but yet isn't doing anything to rectify this problem. Instead they suggest ways of "waking" up the wireless card but to no avail and left me and others high and dry. I admit their quality is excellent with the lacquer finish and are well built.
