I returned my Inspiron E1705. It was way too big for use in college and was just impractical. I will be getting a nice thin and light lappy for me. It is betweent he Apple Macbook Pro and and the Asus W3J. I just thought I'll let you guys know...

Ok, and with those two choices I would go with the W3J. 14" is the perfect size, especially when combined with a x1600 :D

Is this going to be your main computer?
If it is I'm pretty sure you're going to miss the power and huge screen...

Sorry to hear that, but both of the notebooks you are looking at seem to be good choices.

it does seem really big (the 17 inch) to carry around. I too am a college student, and am hesitating on purchasing a 17 inch (eventhough the dell E1705 is an AWESOME deal with GREAT graphics!)

Did you have to pay a restocking fee?

Or you can be like me and get both. My current set up is a E1705 with Nvidia 7900 and a MBP with X1600 bootable in OSX and Windows XP Pro in both boot camp and parallel. I am using the E1705 as my desktop replacement notebook hooked onto my Dell 24" LCD and use the MBP as the portable notebook

Why would you get a 17" laptop to just plug into a 24" LCD ???

Not really, since the Dell is for work and the MBP is for personal/home use and which I use to do design work for charities in the bay area FOC.

Sorry to hear that. The 17" proved to seem much smaller than I thought it did. However, before I got my M90, I was very concerned about size and was considering getting a W3J if I thought the M90 was too large. But it really doesn't bother me at all. In fact, what bothers me is going back and using the 14" screen on my C640. That's a hard transition. The only thing that sucks about a 17" to me is trying to get a case for it.

14" is ideal for mobility and power. The W3J is a very powerful laptop with some nice features, it's a good choice.

I had a 17" 9300 for 6 months, sold it and got a E1505, it was to big/bulky/heavy/hot to use at school. Though i do miss the graphic capability.
