Hi everybody,
Thanks for suggstions on handling my new 6000 that came on Monday. I talked to Dell today and I'm going to return it. The guy I talked with said there wouldn't be a restocking fee or a shipping fee, so that's cool. I hope there are no troubles with that.
After I talked to him about returning it, I talked with a purchasing person about getting an E1505. I'm buying with an educational discount, and they are using the E1505 rather than the I6400 on the education site.
There are three things that I'm not happy about right now and which caused me to hold off on purchase.
1. They don't seem to offer a WUXGA screen, only XGA and SXGA+. I definitely want UXGA, so I'll have to wait. This isn't any sort of issue with true life is it? I mean they make UXGA in the true life variety, right?
2. The video card. I'm not a gamer, but I don't really want to sacrifice system memory for my video, so I'd like a dedicated card.
3. Bluetooth. Not a deal breaker, but I'd really like to have Bluetooth integrated, as it is on the I6000.
I know these have been discussed on other threads, but does anyone have any "inside" information on when these might be available? The guy on the phone seemed to think that it would be a while before they change anything. I hope this doesn't make me without a computer! I'm relying on my old I8000 to pull me through a little longer, but its falling apart.
Thanks!

1. Have you seen WUXGA on a 15.4" screen? Everything would be way too small for me, but l dunno about you.
2. Rumor is a x1400 may be coming out for the E1505 soon.
3. Don't know. -
so far any dates that are going around are just rumors. I haven't seen any information on a specific date for it to be released.
as far as the truelife issue, i'm with unreal. There is alot of issues about the matte screen on the 17in, but the 17in is considerably bigger than the E1505, so chances are on the E1505 you might have a problem with it. You might try going to best buy, compusa, etc and look at 15in screens with a glossy finish. That will give you a better idea if you would like it or not -- eventhough it won't be the exact same as the truelife screen. -

You could always try a Dell kiosk. Usually the old 6000 is on display with and one of the two higher resolutions (either/ or. They never have plain jane). Can't be sure which will be there.

Sorry if I was unclear. My question was whether truelife screens come in WUXGA.
I have UXGA resolution on my old computer and have it on the 6000 i'm returning and it is what I prefer.
On the Dell web site, they don't seem to be offering the E1505 in WUXGA and I was wondering if they would change that soon. -

Perphaps like with Blue Tooth and the X1400, they will offer it a little later on.

i'm sure all the things you're looking for will be available soon; how soon? good question.

So, I just chatted with a Dell representative.
He told me that he was "pretty positive" that the dedicated video card option would be available on the E1505 in the next week or two.
He said "This will be the video card option ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 or X1400 Video memory 64 MB (X1300) or 128 MB (X1400)"
I also asked about a UXGA screen, because this is what I want. His response, "The 15.4 inch Ultra Sharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife is the maximum available and it will stay that way."
So, that's kind of bad news. Now I don't know what to do. I still have the I6000 and UPS is supposed to pick it up on Monday. But the screen is sort of a deal breaker for me. I am used to and really prefer the higher resolution.
Any suggestions? -
i seriously doubt that dell will not eventually offer wxga, wsxga and wuxga resolutions on their notebooks. i think the rep is incorrect in that statement. -
The video card options specified earlier, "ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 or X1400 Video memory 64 MB (X1300) or 128 MB (X1400)", are consistent with the Owner's Manual for the e1505/I6400 over at Dell.com
The big question is "when" and "how much". -
I ordered my E1505 a week ago. The dedicated graphics wasn't a big deal as I'm not a gamer, and probably won't be doing a lot of really intensive work with it. What I want to know is since I have the Intel integrated graphics card, does this mean there is no way to purchase one of the dedicated chips later on and install it myself? I looked at the service manual and it does have the steps to replace a card, but I wasn't sure if there will be a system board change between the models with integrated GPU's and the future ones that have a dedicated option? I realize that replacing it would be much more involved than upgrading a HD or RAM, but I think I can handle it, being a former DCSE.
