I've read that you can return a Vostro back to Dell for any reason and get a full refund (no re-stocking). I was curious if anyone had done this and if they had run into any snags or anything (besides probably waiting on the phone). Thanks.

with the vostro I don't think you need a reason cause there are to many
    headphone jack interference,
    loose battery,
    light bleed,
    grainy screen,
    CPU whiny,
    and so on.......

I'm sure you have one of those - if not let me know maybe I'm up for a trade.

I was on the phone yesterday with a Dell CSR to arrange a return of my 3 day old Vostro 1500. I explained the grainy screen problem to them and they scratched their head and THEY suggested that I return the laptop for a full refund. They even arranged for a UPS pickup and will have a CSR call me the following day to make sure that pick up actually took place. Dell is paying for the return shipping and there will be no restocking fees.

So I'm happy with the way they handled the return. If you have an issue with your new computer then waste no time and call them up ASAP and you'll get a complete refund if it's within the trial period.

The only caveat to all this is that it could take up to 30 days to receive the credit card refund. I've ordered another computer, a Vostro 1700, so I'll have 2 purchases on credit card to juggle until I get the refund.

Southend517 really got the shaft on his Dell.

Only problem I have is the bad headphone sound and that's probably not going to be fixed anytime soon. But it's only noticeable on low volumes.

Mine is going back as well.

I'm downgrading from XGA+ to XGA......

I have 2 year onsite warranty and will nag them about the headphone noise later :)
