    Well I screwed up.

I ordered a new studio 17, good specs and all for my girlfriend- but its way too big and heavy for her...and she absolutely hates the extra five finger key set...

So there is nothing physically wrong with the unit, but I would like to return it, without paying the restocking fee.

Anybody know the best way to go about this?

Are you interested in purchasing another Dell computer?

Good. Tell Dell that you are unhappy with this computer, and you want to return it to purchase another Dell computer. I'm sure they'll let you return your machine then. You win, they win, everyone wins!

Well all touchpads are hard to move until they've been used a lot. She's just really picky. Anyway, I wouldn't suggest a Studio 15, my girlfriend tried it, and it's too heavy for her still. I gave her an Inspiron 1545 instead, and it was better. It's still heavy, but a good bit lighter than the Studio. She likes it. I'd recommend the Inspiron 13 or Inspiron 1545.

FatMangos makes some good points. If she thinks the Studio 17 is too heavy, she probably won't think much better of the Studio 15. At 6.1 pounds, it's one of the heavier 15.4" models. She might like the XPS M1530.
