I recently purchased a dell notebook, and it just arrived with scratches and the system had no os loaded. I do not have the time to load everything and would like to return it. What is the procedure for returning items to dell? Will I have to pay a restocking fee or shipping back? Any advice or input would be great. Thanks

P.S. I checked online for the customer care chat, but I no longer see that. Did they remove that feature?

You have 21 days from date of *invoice* to return for refund/new replacement. Since you have obvious problems with your lappy, I don't see that they would charge you the 15% restocking fee (very rarely do they anyways)

Here is the return information for you:

oh, so the hardware chat is for customer support also. I remember you used to put in order number. Thanks for the heads up. Also do they give you a shipping label? Or do I pay for shipping back.
    Thanks for the fast responses.

    They pay shipping back.
Dell is amazing in that regard.

sounds great. Thanks for all of your replies.

I remember I returned an item once and they even refunded my shipping. But that was a while back.

Hope my return goes well. Once again, thanks for all your replies.

I spent about 2 hours getting a rep can help me set up return.

Well, first you will reach a rep but she can't do anything for you, if you said the problems are from hardware,(like not full loaded) congratulation, you will be transfered to our dear tech support.
Then you have to spend your reset of your life to reach the right person.

Ok, but the last rep I reached is very nice at all, she asked me if she honored $75 or 35(I forgot ) back to my credit card, would I keep the system .

Then I said no, she gave me two option to return, one is UPS pick up, other is sending me a pre pay label. she said she will also follow up my case by e mail

However, I still don't receive any email from her. Hopefully, UPS will pick up the system tomorrow.

I hope you can get a good luck.

Update: I talked to Dell today and they agreed to give me a full refund and pay back for shipping. It took me about 15 minutes and three transfers which wasn't to bad. Just hope the credit doesn't get screwed up.

Compsavy, that's really good news to hear. At least the call was only 15 minutes and not a *epic length of time*.

I'm sure all will end up well with the credit part!

Well my final update, I got my credit for returning without a restocking fee. I sent it out that Friday and got the credit back on Wednesday so basically a couple day turn around. I have to say, a great part of dell for being so efficient to me.
