What does Dell usually do when you have a problem with the screen and it needs replacing?

Some of you seem to be able to get a new system in the mail while keeping the old one. Then when the new one arrives you can keep the one you like.

With me they want me to send the laptop back to "Dell Depot" so they can replace the screen.

What's normal? Are they giving me a bum deal? Does it matter which warranty you have? I've had this computer less than a week. They told me the lid and the screen were NOT the same piece, which doesn't agree with what I've read in this forum and makes me wonder if they're being straight with me.

if you have the in home service they send out the screen to a technician and then the tech comes to your house and replaces it, if you dont then they send the replacement laptop or have you send in yours

Yes get a replacement.. If they don't agree, then threaten to cancel/return. If they still won't replace it, then just get your money and save yourself allot of frustration.

I'm thinking they are having to replace so many systems for bad displays that they may try other options to limit their losses. All the time they do nothing to drop the vendors that have quality control issues. Others point out they use cheap 6 bit displays that don't do well with the higher res screens. Whatever it is, Dell displays are generally not up to par with the competition.. I don't think so. In fact, looking at my new HP.. I know they r are not.

Well regarding the initial post of this thread, if your system is still w/in dell return period you can ask for a replacement if you dont want to send this system to the depot. The tech just followed what your contract have said, I believe your warranty includes the depot that's why they send your system to the depot for the replacement of the LCD and check if ever there are any other issues w/ your computer.

I believe if you request to have a system exchange due to this problem and if ever that system is still shipping then they will give another system for this. If not well try looking for another model.

They wouldn't. I was just wondering if I should call them up and insist on a new system. I'm a little leery of "Dell Depot" because of some of the horror stories I've read about it -- people getting their systems back with new things wrong with them, in worse physical condition than when mailed in.

If I had the sort of warranty that has someone come to your house and fix the laptop, I'd be less worried about having the screen replaced.
