    Does anyone know if:

    1. The courier collecting a broken Dell system checks the box contents?
    2. If Dell check the box contents when they receive them?

After a rather disastrous repair attempt by a Dell engineer today the new M1330 replacement motherboard fell apart before making it into my laptop!!!

I called Dell and said replace it with a new machine or refund me, replacement is on the way!

Dell are aware the old one is in pieces (as I asked the engineer to leave that way) Basically I'm wondering if the battery and maybe the hard drive don't make it back to Dell would anyone notice?! (I will consider it fair payment of my time and phone call costs trying to get it sorted!!)

They probably will notice, but I can't say they'll let you keep it. Hard to say.

Well, if you get a vigilant receiver then he/she will probably notice that the hard drive is missing. Worse case scenario you get credit for all but the hard drive. The battery is probably not as important. If the cost of the hard drive is relatively low, they may just write it off.

I figure if I keep the battery, worst case scenario is they will turn around and ask me to pay for it, a spare would really be useful and I wouldn't mind paying for it anyway! It wouldn't exactly be hard to pass it off as a mistake, considering the laptop is about 100 pieces in a box right now!

They are not engineers.... they are called technicians. ROFL. Engineers didn't go to school for four years to fix notebooks. Engineers create the software/hardware products for the laptop which requires discrete mathematics and circuit analysis and much more. Where as a tech just gets trained to do his/her job.

    No.

    Yes.

They will notice and you will be charged.

What you could do is call Dell and tell that you are keeping the hard drive and battery for the inconvenience you have gone through. There is a good chance they will agree to this.

LOL, actually kinda glad the replacement board broke, was not impressed that it was a refurb, only agreed to it because I needed the laptop next week! He wasn't exactly very gentle with it either, pulling at things and bending things, looked like he actually pulled the wrong thing off and quickly put it back on at one point!!!
I might just call them after it's been picked up saying sorry I left the battery out the box by mistake, considering all the trouble I've had can I keep it!

Please let me know if this works. I have done dell exchange like 3 time for my XPS M1330. And i currently have a M1330 i need to return for my last exchange. I would so like to keep the battery and charger. Let me know if you call them and ask them if they will let you keep it.

On a side note, on my previous returns i kept the headphones that came with my XPS and they didnt say/do any thing; but i think headphones are much cheaper than batter/charger.

I accidentally kept the AC adapter, headphones, and remote from one 1330 system exchange. Haven't heard a peep from Dell about it.

As long as the system is there I doubt they care.....

sorry guys, but I'm getting sick reading that stuff..how cheap can one be? seriously - you spend $1200+ on a notebook and just can't afford to BUY second battery? or at least ASK dell if you can keep it due to tech issues you had? do you REALLY have to STEAL $100 product?
    ..distasteful..
