I've read that reversing the fans in notebook cooling pads will help reduce the temp of the laptop better. Does aynone know if this is true?

I guess blowing it directly can help cool, but your not moving out the hot air.
-
exhausting hot air usually, almost always has a better impact than blowing cool air on something
-
Thats actually untrue. It is better to blow cool air than to suck hot air out. It doesnt make sense if the hot air isnt moved out. If no hot air is moved out then there will be no airflow whatsover...and obviously there is airflow. People choose either depending on the configuration of the notebook itself. Where the vents are located etc.

By reversing, if you make it work against the notebooks air flow then it can make things worse. For example: if the air vents underneath your notebook are designed to suck air in, and you make your cooling pad also to suck air out of those vents then the air flow inside the notebook is reduced, this can have an adverse effect on cooling.

Best way is to determine which way the fans on the bottom is blowing. If there is an intake fan on the bottom of the notebook then have the cooler blow cool air. If there is an exhaust fan then have the cooler suck air out. If there is neither blowing cool air onto the back of the notebook will be better.
