I just noticed today that the right speaker on my Vostro plays no sound. Yes, I checked all settings in Windows. I took out the dvd player and peeked inside the casing, but all wiring was hidden. I also tried to take the little speaker cover off, but I gave up and only succeeded in loosening the stupid thing just enough to where there's some play in it...
I don't want to send it in, because I have valuable data on my hd I don't want to lose or risk losing. I don't want anyone looking at the data either. What should I do? Just put up with it?
    Thanks.

Are you sure the setting are all right? It could be a software problem.

Some of gateway problems have this problem inherently.

normally you take out your harddrive before sending your laptop in.

Yes, because the headphones work on both right and left.

Try headphones - if you get the Right side then sound cards fine and it's a problem with the right speaker or the cable (presumably there is some form of amping before the speakers too). I'd guess the most likely is failure of the speaker itself meaning you would need it replaced

EDIT - just noticed your post re headphones

I couldn't believe this, but I called the support line, they had me run a diagnostic test, and after that, the speaker worked!?!?!? What the poop? Oh well, it's all good now. Thanks guys.
