Does anyone know what the option "Run HLT command when OS idle" does in RM Cpu Clock?

Whatever it, it is stopping the (light) buzzing coming from my new 6400 with T7400.

The question is what is wrong with my notebook? And what does RMCPU thing do to correct it?

Any feedback will be appreciated! Thanks..

i'm fairly certain that it somehow halts the processor until it is again needed. that buzzing that you hear is probably the processor itself...i normally can hear my Pentium M notebook buzzing when it does anything.

the cpu itself shouldnt make any noise, my guess would be its either a fan kicking in or the hard drive, the cpu should be silent

do you think this buzzing thing is common in all core 2 duo laptops- and I am too picky- or there is something wrong with my laptop. If the latter is the case, although I really don't want to- since it is good- I have to replace this thing. I heard HP's are experiencing this thing. I called Dell support this morning and the technical guy was totally unaware of this matter.

I have the same problem with my Inspiron 640m, and the Rightmark Utility did the trick, however I also wanna know if it's NORMAL and whether this can be solved in any other (hardware?) way.

I started a similar thread in hardware section and some guy says Run HLT thing is not really good. I may post the link later, but for now it is really easy to find. It is getting confusing!
