Recently, I downloaded the rocketdock for my laptop, and it's kind of cool. But I'm not sure I like the idea of getting rid of my icons on the left and replacing them with the rocketdock thing.
I'd like to hear the opinions of others on this application, and how they set up on their laptops. Thanks.

No matter what system I'm using, I tend to stick RocketDock at either the top or bottom of my screen (like the Mac's docking bar). As long as the bar is kept to the right size, I tend to keep it along the top, actually. It doesn't interfere with program navigation, and it stays out of my start menu. I find it gets too annoying on the sides.

I use RocketDock... I cleaned up my desktop and put it on top, auto-hiding, and slightly separated from the edge of the screen as to not interfere with my Winamp (which I also use on the top edge of the screen). I also installed a little plugin called KkMenu which lets you add menus to the dock.
I have a couple of folders that I use to organize shortcuts, separated into "games", "tools", and a separate icon for audio applications, and I add an icon on Rocketdock to point to the folders. What KkMenu does is that it shows the content of the folder as a menu on the dock. I also have a couple of other non-folder icons on the dock such as for my music, Firefox and "My Computer".
I use an OSX skin... my friends make fun of me and ask me whether I'm a mac-user-wannabe, heh.
Here are two screenshots so you can take a look... (sorry for the full-size desktop one, it's 320KB)
Edit: I use it because it helps me keep stuff a little more organized, and I just don't like the start menu (too cluttered and ugly, even though I guess I COULD clean it up...) Also, it is very speedy and doesn't seem to use much RAM. It has never been a problem...Attached Files:

You could look into ObjectDock. It's what I use and it's very nice.

Wow, that looks very nice. How is it in terms of performance and memory usage? Does it let you add drop-down menus/folders for quick access (like my screenshot), or only direct shortcuts to programs?
I might just have to try that out and see which one I like better. -
i've used a lot of docks (including object dock) and out of all of them, I like rocket dock because of its feel and its lack of interference on system performance

Looks interesting, but just worried it may hog the system resources.

Does Rocketdock have a solution to displaying the system tray if the user chooses to completely hide their taskbar while using Rocketdock?

Rocketdock seriously makes me wonder about how much effort other companies are putting into their software. Seriously, Rocketdock is free, made by a bunch of no namers and it's quality and interface beats the living tard out of almost any interface out there. Seriously, you got big companies commissioning surveys to design their next version and they can't even produce something half as good as Rocketdock....
I am, however, very impressed with Vista live search. Vista live search FTW. That is a true minimalist's UI. All keyboard and no mouse needed. Much faster. Add on Start++ and I can keyboard ninja my way til lunchbreak. -
i love rocketfish!

I've never used Rocketdock but i do use ObjectDock (i use the 'plus' version, it costs about $20/£10). I couldn't be without it now, i hate my desktop being all cluttered.
I have my dock at the top and i have the task bar set to autohide so it's out of the way but if i did need it for anything it's easy enough to bring it back up. But i never use it because you can have the start menu on your dock and you can have the system tray there too or in a separate tabbed dock like mine.
As for performance, as i type i'm screen capping my desktop and working with the images in Photoshop, Got firefox open with multiple tabs, vista sidebar with BBC video playing in it and two docks open and nothing is lagging.
