Okay, so as you all know, Dell's customer support was supposed to call me back on Monday with an update on my m1530. I was told last Thursday that all they were waiting for was my 250GB 7200RPM HD, and that that was on back-order and should be in within a week.

Dell's customer support called yesterday and said much the same thing, although the guy did not include a time frame on the HD.

Well, he called my cell phone today, but unfortunately I must not have had service and it went straight to voicemail.

Apparently, despite him telling me straight up last Thursday that the only part they did not have was my hard drive, in his message he stated that my screen was back-ordered as well as the hard-drive and again there is no time-table on the order.

For those who don't know, my screen is the 1920x1200.

This is I why I ordered in late April instead of waiting until July. By the time I get this system Montevina will be out! LOL

I'm not really upset with Dell, although I'm annoyed with the fact that I was told everything was in order except for the hard drive but now both the hard drive and my screen are on back-order.

Actually, the worst thing is that they don't bill until they ship (happy about that though!), which is wreaking havoc on my bank account since I have to keep the funds frozen...

You are taking it better than I would RingLeadr. Until your posts I had not heard about delays due to HD's. Mine was purchased on 4/22 and remember the "May Delay Shipping" message on both the LED (which I opted for) as well as the 1920x1200.

Hope you get yours soon. Hoping mine comes FedEx since Memphis is not too far from me (central Alabama). Good luck

I was told the same thing. I ordered 4/16 with an esd: 4/29. It was delayed until 5/6 because of the 9 cell battery and now it is delayed again until 5/13 because of the combination of both the battery and the bezel.

And to think this is a birthday gift to myself?

Well, the thing is, on the one-day sale I ordered on, the ONLY screen choices were those two, and I preferred the higher resolution. So both screens were delayed, but I thought I'd gotten semi-lucky since the support rep said the only part that was delayed was the HD. Until today, of course.

I'm hoping I get it soon as well, but I don't NEED it until June 22 (orientation at the college I'm attending).

Mine will most likely be DHL - my printer and laptop bag were delivered by them after roundabout routes.

Well, I'm glad that my posts about hard drive delays were helping some people then...

What are the specs on your system?

The 9-cell isn't supposed to delay me...of course, who knows, that might change...

And added to my experience, I live in the Caribbean so I have to wait 5 to 9 business before it lands in the country and then it has to go through customs. And my birthday is May 26th, hopefully, it would ship earlier than they expected.

Ugh, man I hope you have good eyes. Because 1920x1200 is going to be freaking tiny on a 15'' monitor!

My M1530 is supposed to ship out tomorrow *crosses fingers* with the LED screen and 320 Gig hard drive.

RingLeadR, what phone # are you calling that you can get that info? Because every damn number I try I get India and nobody there can do anything but Lie and read scripts it seems..

I am starting to think they have my phone number route directly to India since I can't for the life of me get somebody from the States. I hate Dell.

    Same processor
    Same RAM
    1920x1200 LCD
    nVidia Geforce 8600M GT
    250GB 7200RPM free-fall sensor HD
    Vista Home Premium
    Intel Next-Gen N Wireless Card
    9-Cell Battery
No productivity software (bought MS Office Ultimate 2007 for $60 from Microsoft, student sale)
    3-year onsite warranty/3-yr Computrace lojack
    Same Bluetooth module

It's not actually that bad - pictures are in the "Has anyone received their 1920x1200 yet" thread. The clarity is amazing. I wanted the resolution because I won't have a TV and so I'll be watching loads of movies and such.

I'm calling the XPS Customer Service line -1-800-964-8321. The first time I talked to anyone was a woman with a heavy Scottish accent and she transferred me to a guy with a heavy Indian accent and he has been the person who has called me with every update so far. I have absolutely no beefs with the customer support at the moment, they are at least keeping me informed and supposedly expediting my order, they bumped my shipping up to next-day for free, and he's actually telling me what parts are causing delays.

That's odd because nobody will do the same with me. They insist on canceling my order to bump shipping and claim that is the ONLY way to do it. None can tell me what is holding up my order either.

Very interesting. Where are you located?

The guy upgraded my shipping without even waiting for me to mention it, he just did it since I called, basically.

Now, he wouldn't let me change my hard drive without canceling the order, but after further thought I decided it didn't really matter and I'd just keep the HD I had ordered.

Hum. North Carolina, so there really shouldn't be a difference with the customer service. Have you tried calling at random times, just hoping to get a 'nice' CSR?

I thin the only differance is the HD. Ordered mine on April 27 and it was not supposed to ship until May 26 because of a back order on the HD screen. She said on the phone that it COULD come earlier. She was right. Got DELIVERED to my house in New York on May 5!

Sorry to hear about what you are going through.

Good for you! Yeah, I'm hoping that one or the other of the products is actually there and they are just waiting on the other one to show up.

My friend says this is why I should have gone with the MBP since Apple has everything on-site as opposed to getting the parts from all different manufacturers.

Sorry for not showing much sympathy here.

You want your laptop to be customized to your liking. You want to pick which CPU, LCD, Lid Colour, etc. And you want it delivered yesterday...

Maybe next time you should buy from a brick & mortar outlet where you can walk out with your laptop. Oh wait, they don't offer the stuff you want.

Not many companies out there offers the level of customization you can get from Dell. You're comments about Apple shows you don't understand how the 2 companies differs.

And you know what, it's not uncommon to have to wait to get goods... Just recently I waited 6 weeks for case fans that where out of stock. Yes I could have bought a different brand that was in stock but I really wanted that brand so I waited.

    Enough said.

Wait a minute. Hold on. I was quoting my friend re what I said about Apple, that was not me. Personally, there was never really any realistic chance I would have ordered a Macbook Pro - I want a system that's great for school AND entertainment. Everything after "My friend said..." was a direct quote from my friend, not me.

This is exactly why I ordered from Dell - so I could customize EVERYTHING. Personally, I've already stated several times I'm not really upset at all about the waiting, it's more just the comedy I'm getting out of the situation.

Dell called me on my cell yesterday while I was out but I didn't answer because my caller ID said it was an 800-number and I didn't figure out it was Dell quick enough.

However, the same customer service rep I've been talking to left me a message saying that my 250GB 7200RPM HD was in stock and no longer causing a problem, but that my 1920x1200 was still delayed.

I think it's ridiculous Dell can't keep enough product in stock to build these. Pretty amateur.

Err, just got an email delaying it for a second time. It'll be "in production" for a whole month before it ships.

First est. was the 8th, now it is the 20th...

Ha. Ha. Ha. I responded to the email from the CSR and got an "Out Of Office Auto Reply" stating he'd be back on May 16th. Naturally, this like an hour after he emailed me about the supposed delay....I say supposed since the phone system said it was in testing.
