I was just trying out hooking up my Vostro 1500 to my TV. It worked ok but I wanted to try another converter I had. When I went to remove the s-video cable, I found it was totally stuck!!!! It will not come out even with two people (one holding the computer, the other pulling the plug).

Has anyone else had this problem?

Two people? LOL, thats a good way to break the mother board, I would just contact dell if I were you. If it comes down to it, you gotta rip the thing out, if it breaks, return it to dell & order a new one.

I have just had the same problem with my new Inspiron 1520. I have pulled with max. effort without success. It's really strange because it went in like a glove (i.e. no forcing, etc.). I'm curious if you were ever able to remove the s-video cable and how?

How can it get stuck so firm if it went in fine? Maybe the connectors were expanded while inside due to heat  Let the notebook cool down and try again.

Interesting theory-thanks...the good news is that I did try again after awhile and it came out with some effort but not at all the force applied earlier. That could support your theory of heat-expanded pins. I'm understandably hesitant to try again but curiosity will compel me before long.

    Cheers!

I was finally able to get it out after wiggling it as I pulled. If you look at the svideo cable itself, it has slightly raised bumps on the outer ring. I'm thinking it got caught on one of these.

Since that time, I have been using a different cable with no problems at all. So I think the problem is the cable and not the computer.

Thanks for another idea. I have a couple of S-Video cables around (none from Dell) and didn`t think to have a close look for differences, but worth a try. The good news is nobody has reported permanent damage to date!
