I have noticed that the S-Video port on my computer and TV are different.
The computer port has more holes than the tv.
    What are they for?

Presumably for faster or better data transfer. You will still be able to connect to your TV via S-Video.

same on most desktop video cards. when I got my 7800GT for my desktop it came with a cable that connected to the card through a s-video cable. the other end of the cable had like 7 cables comming out of it. s-video, componet, and soemothing else.

This is what you can do:
    http://www.svideo.com/7pinwspdif.html

In short - the Dell 7-pin S-Video port has s-video, S/PDIF digital audio and composite video possibilities. There's another adapter that even gives you component video, at least for the M1710.

Anyway, if you're interested, DON'T BUY THE ABOVE ADAPTER.

It is incompatible with newer dell laptops. Buy from Dell spare parts directly (for example: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=310-8274).

Of course, if all you want is S-video, regular 4-pin ones work without adapter.

Is there one that works with the E1705 and has BOTH Component Video AND S/PDIF?

    Thanks

I remember posting in one thread about the 1705/s-video port, and maybe reading another one or two. Have you searched the forum yet?
