I am trying to find the proper cable connect an Inspiron E1705 to a television set. I've have looked at Dell site and there's nothing obvious about finding the proper cable. The person I talked to in Dell "chat" tells me it's not on the site, but I can call a number to order it. Calling the number I was on hold for 10 minutes before I had to go (this is a sales line?).

The question I have is this, I have an Inspiron 7000 with a cable to connect to TV (the 44CTV). The E1705 is not listed as being compatible with this cable, but I want to know if I can use it with it, can I do any damage if I try, and what are the drawbacks if it works and I do.

I figured I can get better info here than from Dell.

    Thanks.

Option 1: Use a simple S-video cable. It works best, if your TV has S-video in.

Option 2: Call Dell spare parts and get this (or similar)

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=310-8274

which gives you a composite output, as well as a digital audio out (S/PDIF).

The 44CTV is *not* compatible with the e1705 (I know, I've debugged this exact cable)

Option 3: Get an S-video to composite converter

I have an s-vid cable and it works just fine, but since my tv isnt widescreen i thas to stretch on my laptop and the clarity isnt really that good. Overall using the tv as a screen just inst worth it in my opinion.
