I am trying to use the Dell s2009W display with an old Dell inspiron b120 laptop. But I can't get the max resolution of 1600x900 to show as option in the display settings dialogue. Highest resolution showing is 1280x768.

I previously used this laptop with another Dell display that had, I believe, an even larger resoultion, but certainly larger than 1280x768. There were no problems there.

    Thoughts? Help? Thanks.

I have latest driver from Dell site.

It might just not like the aspect ratio on the S2009W. When the B120 came out, I'm fairly certain everything was still 4:3. You can try Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor > Hide modes that this monitor cannot display, and try to force it to run 1600 x 900. Might only give you 1650 x 1080 at best, though.

My old GeForce FX5200 could push 16:10 resolutions, and that card was made before time itself. I don't think it's an aspect ratio compatibility issue.

    Also, I don't suppose you mean 1680x1050? :p

No. I meant 1650 x 1080. Never seen a 16:10.472 display before? Well, you should go to your local brick and mortar and take a look. There's tons of 'em. Right next to the 16:9 models and the 1280:1 models. I have a 30" model in my villa in the drawing room.

    Ya ok, I meant 1680 x 1050.

EDIT: Sorry if that went over poorly; no offense taken. I just didn't want to write another post to say that.

    No offense meant, sorry. :p

Also, my "local brick and mortar" is a 50 minute drive on a good day (and there are no good days).

    thx all.

So I had already unhid the other resolutions and when I select those everything appears all stretched out.

Any other thoughts? Are there any drivers that should or could take care of this and allow me to display in 1600x900?
