    Hi,

I'm thinking about upgrading the 100GB sata drive in my E1705 to a 160GB drive. The drive I am considering is a TOSHIBA MK1637GSX. This is a SATA II drive with a 3.0Gb/s interface. If I put this into my E1705, will it link up at sata I or at sata II speed?

    David

It depends on the motherboard of your Laptop - If your notebook motherboards supports SATAII then it will connect SATAII, if it doesn't it will connect SATA 150 - Also I would suggest going with Seagate/Hitachi for laptop drive over Toshiba - The toshiba's I have ordered for customers failed in the first 6 months - After that I quit ordering them.

Yes I know it depends on the system board in the E1705, that's why I am asking the question...

I can't find anything with that model that refers to SATA II - the intel 945GM support next generation sata but I am not sure if that means sataII or not - I would call Dell and ask them to be sure - I am thinking its only SATA

Unfortunately, the person at Dell that I spoke with did not even know the difference between sata I and sata II... :(

no mention of anything in the manuals... I'm wondering if I should pay a little extra for a drive with sata II speed or if I should just get the sata I drive.
